Don't have a pic of mine although I did wear it out to dinner tonight. Carhartt pretty popular around our outfit too:

These pics were bout 20 years ago. I can still remember that it was cold enough that morning that it just wasn't coffee in those cups! I mean there was some coffee but............

Yes sir....Lay down in the Passaic river I believe....More like a creek than. Any River.. I've been to his house twice. Once for an open house and the second time I picked up an Anorak....... Wool. Clothing everywhere. And Axes...He sold axes for a while and still has quite the stock pile😜.......I was drooling...........Great guy......
The wool denim feels incredible too.......Looks cool as well...
That must of been pretty cool, pun unintended! Around here that's a raging torrent! I was a lil concerned about how brush busting their jackets would be? Had not heard of the wool denim, that might be the ticket. Course now that we're retired from the ranching deal, brush busting a horseback down some mountainside after some crazy cow, going faster than ya really should be going for that hillside..... not as big an issue anymore.

Carhartt storm defender for an outer and if needed a Cabela's wool windproof sweater . View attachment 2704185
I'm big on sweaters too. Got the new LL Bean mailer left open on the counter. Right at a certain page, hint hint. Do you find that wind stopper to be noisy? Very common in the cowboy world to wear a sweater under a soft shell vest. As my son here was doing. It was 8 degrees that morning and he was plenty warm. North eastern Nevada.

My Wind stopper sweater is at least 20 years old makes no noise at all , highly recommend them . Cabela's still makes them but I believe they changed the name to Wind shear .

That LlL Bean sweater I referenced is available with or without Gore Tex Windstopper. Reason I asked is I knew someone who had one of the Cabela’s ones and granted this was probably 30-35 years ago, but it was very loud and crinkly. Kinda turned me off of the concept.

Now shirts is a whole diferent deal. I’ll have to check them out. I wear wool shirts all the time (Pendleton).

Mine very well might have been noisy when I first got it can't remember but it sure isn't anymore , I also have a heavy wool vest from Cabela's post a pic when I get home .

This 1960's woolrich is another favorite of mine.

I have 2 of these.
The 1st one I bought cheap 3 years ago or so, it had lots of pilling and was a size too big but I made some memories in that jacket.
This one I scored of Ebay a few weeks back in NOS condition.

if I had to guess I'd say it's probably only a 24oz wool but it's better than most wool you'll find today.
The Pendleton wool is a denser, but while they mill their wool here it's sent overseas to be manufactured into garments.

Many years ago I bought so much from Cabela's. Just no real other options for shopping up here in the mountains. That vest certainly looks cozy for sure!

I just bought a columbia omni heat jacket for my nefew for Christmas as it was on sale and I like gadgets.

So it has some sort of silver space blanket liner thing.

I have no idea if it is any good because I don't really get cold enough.

But it looks cool.

It'll probably be pretty warm and certainly fairly lightweight.
The materials in the high tech modern outerwear is often kind of delicate, but most people don't really care about getting a piece that can last a lifetime.

Our old horse Vet up here and his wife, (she was also his assistant), had vests and jackets with that silver lining. I asked her one time if it worked and she said it did. But then again, they moved away to a warmer clime........

Temperatures are bit moody at this time of the year but I’ve used my winter coat on and off. It’s borderline hot still but okay in the mornings and when left open.
My son kinda has been dealing with that a couple weeks ago. Low 20's when he saddles in the morning and mid 70s when I'm talking to him mid afternoon. Hard to dress for that when you are in the saddle all day.

Some of you may know but the original name of our business was Horsewright Clothing and Tack. Some years ago we changed it to Horsewright as we had evolved quite a bit and that was more applicable. Plus the other was a mouthful. Anyhoo wanted to share this wool coat I designed. We only made this one prototype as it was an extremely difficult build and we were gonna have to sell this for quite a bit more than the market would bear. Anyhoo meet the San Joaquin Blanket Coat. It's made from Italian Army wool blankets. For years these blankets were widely available and you have seen them in multiple movies and just didn't know it. Most of the time in the movies they've been made into coats. Silverado, Open Range, Seabiscuit etc. Saw one again the other day but forget what movie we were watching. They were also relatively inexpensive and so were a pretty good source. I have one left and often use it as a back drop for taking pics of rifle scabbards and other larger items. How you can id them is they have a unique stripe pattern at each end. Anyhoo:

It's lined in black raw silk. The cape is removable and then you have a long coat but if you are really fighting the weather that cape makes it. I built this to fit my wife then girlfriend. Her big complaint on it was that it was too heavy but warm. There is a vent in the back that splits and allows the coat to be worn horseback.

Removable cape:

I based this loosely on a western duster type coat. The snaps to open and close the vent:

That unique stripe pattern I incorporated in the sleeves and at the bottom .

Years ago we had a few leppy (orphan) calves. We'd bring them home cause these lil guys would need to be bottle fed every 3-4 hours to make it. We even had one we named Chevy because he rode home in the back seat of the truck. He stood up the whole way looking with interest everywhere we were going, like a dog. This coat served well during white out blizzards and going outside at 0300 to bottle feed a calf! That's what the stain is there on the bottom, calf milk.

Anyhoo we were discussing wool coats and this is definitely a wool coat!
