Been to blade show for 8 years in a row and noticed that by 11am the Strider booth is sold out every year. Great, soo this year I bought an expensive "early bird" ticket in hopes I could get to the Strider booth before they are sold out. Made to the venue by 5 am and there was already a LONG line, but I was prepared for that. Doors opened for early birds and I made my way to the Strider booth to find it SWAMPED I mean 6 people deep at their counter. OK, guess I should have been there earlier than 5am(WTF). Got a peek at the offerings over someone's shoulder to see there were some SnG's left albeit not in the configuration I was hoping to score. Still, I have made it this far and decided I would buy one of the SnG's for the collection or to sell later. Vendor grabbed the model I wanted to see, took a quick look and said "I'll take it". Handed him my card and he said "we only accept cash"! Are you freaking kidding me? I don't have $800 cash on me as everyone in the freaking world accepts CC payments. I couldn't believe what he was saying. There was no time to get cash from the ATM as there were now 100 people behind me at the counter and I was so pissed that I didn't know they would only accept cash. I guess the true "Striderites" knew they were cash only. But that sealed it for me. Yes I should've known this but it really ruined the experience for me. I ended up leaving the show almost immediately as I was so aggravated with myself for investing so much time/money into that endeavor and coming up empty handed.

My thoughts on Mickbag McBurger and his knives aside, it's on you for not having cash. It's a concretely known thing that almost all vendors/makers will make deals with you if you're paying cash, and plenty of them actually don't take cards. Not having $800 cash on you was a rookie move. I said what I said.

That's why you didn't get a knife. But hey, now you know for next time.

Also, just read the last part again, you got so angry at not scoring a felon's knife that you just....left? So many makers making categorically better knives than that guy, who would take your card and you just walked out? Yeesh, Ok, then.

totally own that it was my fault for not having cash.

Most businesses prefer cash as they get the cash right away and dont have to wait for a credit card company to release funds, either cash or debit...

Before retiring, I was self-employed. And I accepted several methods of payment. Getting paid is king! Not income tax evasion.
And I agree with this "Striders are overrated. Not worth the money, just my 2 cents. More honorable makers to buy from these days."

I understand the frustration. While I had cash on hand, I think it is ridiculous for a maker, especially one as popular and well known as Strider to not accept credit cards.

As far as the early bird line is concerned, it’s a complete joke. The communication between the show promoters (or whatever you want to call them) and the show attendees was atrocious. If you talk to four or five different people, you got four or five different answers.

While being told by a maker that they only accept cash would have really irritated me, the main reason I would not return anytime soon would be because of the poor communication and direction when it came to getting early bird passes from will call.

Yeah, not having a good amount of cash on you was a pretty big brain fart but it happens. Also, I agree with others that you can find much better knives for the price point. I just don’t understand the strider hype and all the foaming at the mouth followers. I owned a couple just to see what it was all about and I was significantly underwhelmed with all of them. I guess looking tough goes a long way.

I do feel your pain though, about four years ago I waited in the earlybird line to get one of the 40 Oz Roosevelts at the show and because I didn’t run to the small room once the earlybird doors opened, I ended up being number 41 in line while staring at the four people in front of me that ran past me on the way. Took me a little while to regroup after waiting that long specifically to get one specific knife and missing by one person because I didn’t run, lol. On a positive note, I was able to have a nice conversation with Daniel, great guy!!!

All it takes is one jackass disputing the charge later to make you rethink taking credit cards. And amex always sides with their customers. That and the fees.

Limiting how people give you money is a rookie mistake. Because one guy, five years ago charged back. lol

If I were selling my goods and that's how the competition was doing it. My booth would accept CC's, PP, Google Wallet, Zelle, Cash app, Bread, bitcoin, HSA Accounts, Pesos and Titles.

🤣

LG takes cards and sells out super early as well. I'd give my eyetooth to be early bird at his booth.
