20th Century British Military Gurkha Issue Kukri article update 2015

FYI: Modern E-nep on top. This one was made in Aranyik District of Thailand i believe.

Seen blades a lot like that by a few sellers on e-bay, am I correct in guessing that that's where they're from? They seem fairly affordable, what's your thoughts on them?

Interesting, that does look more kukri-like than the ones I saw. However there is still something about the Chindit Enep that appeals to me in a way the others don't. I honestly would buy an HI Enep Kukri if I got the chance.

Thanks Spiral. Looked around for Enep knife on Google and found some pictures. Would I be correct in saying that this style is a hybrid of Enep and Kukri? Because I looked around, and the Enep knives that I could find didn't have the kukri-like curve of this example. They looked closer to Bolos, while still being distinct from the Bolo. This however really does look to me like it's a hybrid style.

Oh and this is funny, but I'm taking a class in information gathering from open sources, and using your images I was able to find you elsewhere. I'm already successfully applying the class material. Now which smiley for this situation...

I would guess it worked like this.

The British Indian army found one they liked, A few bods sat around with glasses of wine & port & cigars &decided to have a cleaver or machete handle put on it. So they did & it was put it into production soon after.

Id say there variation in the shapes & when every village had a blacksmith, differences would have been larger, also perhaps the Chin form is slightly different from the modern Thai form? After all not all kukris look alike....

Yes most people don't yet realise how powerful google images is... I use its less well known search functions all the time!

Stalking me....? Mind you don't follow me into the woods! :D

ps here a link to a Thai site with modern Eneps http://www.thailandoutdoor.com/ArtOfWeapons/E-Nab1/e-nab1.html The bottom one in the 2nd picture is similar....

That sheath you made sure looks fine. Oak? Looks like some Pugs efforts there in the pic too.

Should have attached this to Kamidogs pictures. My bad.

Yep! its oak. I made it from pieces of wood flooring scraps. That E-nep used to belong to Pugs. Im pretty sure he said it was from Aranyik in fact id bet your paycheck on it;). He made the pants for it and also the black G10 scales. Its a very solid knife. He did well!
I guess the Burmese had to have something strong enough to lop heads off them big Pythons! I do like that Burmese style. Cool sheath too.

Awww, it's coming back to me now. I remember that now that you mention it.

Keep em in the family.

Oh and put up a sign on your door steel toes required will ya. Them big ole blades and your bare feet, well it's painful to me even thinkin about it.

Maybe you can do like my ole fence boss did. He married a woman with indian back ground. Said he had to put dirt in her shoes for the first few years to get her to wear shoes.

He was a wise man and she was a fine woman, both long gone now, both positive impact on me for sure.

Spiral the information in this post is just plain amazing. THANK YOU! for putting together so much great info and providing it and some great pictures for us to drool over too.

Thanks for the very nice articel, gota love those mk2:s, gotta find me an antique one, i bought one from tora that i did not like at all.

I tried to get one of those e-neps (Aranyik) - was it a K1 or K2? but was told too ask again in a few months. Quite cool blades, and Miles sounds like a good guy.

These don't have the spines and durability of a kukri (the K's - one on top), but they are a heck of a heavy duty machete from what I've seen.

Mail me Moon and ill tell ya more. Didnt want to get into that here on a Khukri site. Spirals threads are so packed full of good stuff I feel bad about posting unrelated stuff here. I can definitely point you in the right direction tho if your interested.

Thanks, I just did. Sorry for the OT, indeed; maybe a mod will delete my ramblings if he so sees fit.

cantina is well known for thread drift. :)

anyhoo, picked these two eneps off the web a couple months back. these are khukuri sized heavy choppers. they were shipped directly from thailand & came toothy razor sharp. the wood and the bamboo scabbards are both a tad loose fit, so hanging upside down or back flips are not recommended.

I think thats the guy i buy from. Mr. Conrad? Theres another site with almost the same name selling those but she sells folders and a bunch of other miscellaneous stuff. Nice E-nep!

Which is not the same as "Aranyik Trading Co.", as far as I can tell / guess.

You are correct. I have noticed that many sellers buy from the same sources. My favorites so far are the two red dot samples. Notice the second photo of Kroncks. I have been told by more than one of the sellers that the blanks with the lines across them are from worn out rock saw blades. Must be some quarrying going on around there. Ive tried to find pics of the whole blade but no luck. I assume those bands are for cooling fluids to circulate while cutting but that is just my hypotulation (educated speculation).
Heres another of my latest. I figured id cut the bell end off the handle and pole mount it but I've kinda gotten fond of it so I may have to get me another one:D

Love the simplicity on these brutes. Thanks for the tips, I foresee at least one more blade I don't really NEED, but WANT, in my collection. I like these traditional designs and execution, will always prefer them over large-scale-produced stuff.
