Oh WOW!!!! This one is really, really Sssuuhhwwweeeeetttttt!!!!!!!
I put in on my new postal scales and it comes in at 1 Lb 9 Oz!!!!
And it feels like a feather in the hand!!!
And if held just right it is a balance khukuri!!!! With the POB about 3" in front of the habaki bolster. It sure doesn't feel that far when you're holding it correctly though!!!!

The scabbard is just as Uncle Bill said and it's the finest, deepest tooled one I have seen to date with a scroll pattern!!!!
And the karda & chakma are indeed very nice and of very usable size.

And the blades are of the usual sharpness which means they need touching up.
Not as bad as some Uncle Bill has sent me.
Maybe Will is now getting all the really dull ones again.
biggrin.gif

The only downside is there is a very little bit of rust on the side of the karda towards the point and the khukuri has just a very little bit on top of the point.
I got most of the rust off the karda by just polishing it with the jewelers rouge that came off the karda and chakma handles so it's a very minor downside.
These are gonna need cleaned with alcohol in order to get to the color of the wood.

Running a file and a diamond hone over the edges finds the blades right on the way I like them.
I would say the sweet spot, which is very long on this style blade, is right up around 60 Rc as my file skates across the edge without removing any steel.

This is definitely a khukuri anyone would be proud to own!!!!

More later, stay tuned.

Enjoy that bad boy, Yvsa.

I can feel your excitement all the way down here, within shouting distance of the (dare I say it?) Cave of Research.

Yvsa,
Now that you have had this K for awhile, taking the rust off, filing it etc. you are prob. bored with it! You now maybe don't want it,or just no longer need it! Well ,I'm here for you bro. ! Just send it to the cave, think I can find a place for it!
jim(it's what I do for my friends)!

Is this khukuri distally tapered Yvsa? The reason why I'm asking is that I have one almost exactly like this, but about three inches shorter. Same design on the sword of Shiva, with hatchmarks on the bolster and between the rings of the handle. Mine is handled with horn. I agree that this model is excellently balanced. I think it may be partly due to the fact that the khukuri I have is distally tapered from the shoulder to the point.

:
Tsimi it's gonna take me a terribly long time to get bored with this khukuri!!!!!
Don't hold your breath waiting on it.
smile.gif

Kam it is very much dstally tapered.
It goes from 1/2" at the bolster to about 5/32" at the edge bevel at the point.
This is one of the thinnest khukuris I have ever seen except for the old models.
I have a feeling its gonna cut like the BGRS and the YCS which means it will cut like a much heavier khukuri.

well I finally got up enough gumption to brave the heat and humidity and took this sweet little baby out back for some test cutting.
There's an open field out back of our house that's all grown up with honeysuckle, sumac, wild rose and assorted trees as well as grass in the center of it.
I had to cut my way through some of the tangle of honeysuckle to even get to where I wanted to start from.
This blade is light and thin enough to cut quickly through such a
mess.
I cut sumac up to 1"-1 1/4" dia with one swift cut then went over to cut some larger wood.
I love the way this blade handles.
I was in an area that was very thick and didn't have a lot of room to make full swings and it still cut with authority about 1/2 way through some 3" limbs. A swift short strike to the other side and it was cut clear and clean.
The sweet spot is further out than I'm used to since the blade itself is almost 15" long!!!!
To where the flat part of the habaki bolster meets the angled part of the bolster the blade is 15 1/4" long!!!!
And I have been playing with khukuris that are only 2"-3" longer over all.
biggrin.gif

I brought back a shot piece of the wood I cut to see what it would do by cutting it to length on a solid surface like a full size round piece of firewood a couple of feet around.
That's where I really noticed the difference in where the sweet spot was. It was actually my fault since I kept cutting short on it.
But even with that it cut the piece into shorter pieces in short order.
Anyone getting this khukuri is really gonna be well Pleased!!!!

Oh Yeah!!!!
Another thing. The blade still shaves hair a bit after the chopping. A couple of swipes on the strop would bring it back to hair popping sharp!!!!!!!

I imagine that the chopping just took off what was left of the wire burr on the edge after the sharpening I gave it when it got here.
