22 ?? Comments and Suggestions

I saw the title and got hopeful about a run of 22s! I don’t have any ship or pirate jokes to contribute unfortunately…
From our legal dept:
"Piracy is a serious crime Ernie....and not funny...whhuuuoooaa! KA SPLOSH."

Meako, how many knives do we need to cover the folks on the porch?
No idea...300? 400?
Numbers aren't my groove...I doubt there would be any leftovers sitting on the shelf....

I think the 2021 Bladeforums Barlow was like 500+ knives if I’m not mistaken? But that was a GEC made knife, would 500+ knives sell if GEC didn’t make it this year? I really don’t know lol. GEC does it right, all their knives are incredibly well made so it’s understandable that folks would want them to do it again. I’d be in for anything from any maker as long as the tradition continues! My 21’ BF Barlow is still my favorite traditional knife of all time!!

I don't think this is an issue of pessimism versus optimism, any amount of optimistic new ideas will not produce a 2022 BF Traditional Forum Knife, if the mods have had enough, which they have previously stated I think, along with the site owner I understand. It seems churlish not to accept that, and while joking about it is much better than moaning about it, and finger-pointing, suggesting ways that we can somehow conjure up a 2022 BFTK, with a better process, or different planning, seems delusional. Perhaps it would just be better to forget about this project for now, and hope that differing conditions might allow its resurrection in the future

I do not care if we do one from GEC, but I would hate to see the tradition die. I do believe the process would benefit from fewer cooks in the kitchen and a head chef to take charge of the menu. Last year I would have been more than happy to just let Charlie spec the knife, and forgo all of the polls (fun as they were).
I wouldn't be sad if there was one poll this year. Should Charlie spec the knife and Meako write something that I can't understand on the tube: yes or no.

I vote Yes!

No matter, just hope I'll get a chance to be part of it any way we go, IF we go 😁

And, regardless of how it unfolds, I will be grateful for efforts of all involved to make it happen!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

agreed, usually my interests are mostly reflected in the forum knife without my needing to say much. there were few years that the forum knife had more than one blade.

What would you think about a Ukrainian knife this year? Jack discovered BPS, a firm that makes good knives at a good price (I see they even make friction folders). It would also support people in need, and would eliminate the incentive to flip GEC knives.

I wouldn’t even be concerned about the delivery timeline—take whatever time they need.

I think a special Mora would be very cool forum knife, like a No. 1 Classic with high grade curly birch and upgraded sheath, or a Garberg or Eldris carbon with a special handle color or a wood handle, etc.

Buck, Lion Steel, so many good makers......

That sounds fairly ominous, but I would guess is about right on the money, considering the deafening silence from the mods.

The mods have said a forum knife was too much hassle and drama for many years, and yet, we have had a forum knife for all those years.

If you dont ask you cant get.

Will the board owner or mods kill the forum knife this year? Is it really over? Will this ship not set sail again?

I cannot imagine having the weight of the decision to end the forum knife hanging over my head like a thousand clip point knives ready to drop and skewer my soul.

If we can’t get a knife, how about a placeholder? Maybe GEC would allow us to order a key fob or bottle opener? If it came in a tube we could still get the art.

What a depressing and pessimistic post!! …And Charlie scares away the Dementors with a Patronus Charm!

Thank you Charlie for being an eternal optimist!
