Got my 25.... Born February 12th 2013

Initial impressions: (since I haven't put this thing through its paces yet)

-It screams hard use
-Very comfortable in the hand with no hot spots for my hand (large glove size)
-increased pivot size and stop pin size makes it very stiff. No flex or movement in any direction
-Strong detent. I don't see this thing opening by chance in my pocket
-Excellent jimping. Very grippy without been rough or sharp
-Increase in blade thickness is very confidence inspiring (yet is not a knife to pry with! it is a slicer-a very tough one-)
-Ceramic ball lock: vault like. Loud "clack" and no movement whatsoever!
-Very smooth. (*)

* while taking it apart I noticed that the pivot in the lock bar side was very tight and that is why I didn't take it out. Not sure if this is like it is supposed to be but then when I put the knife together I noticed the blade action to be very stiff and that made me play a little bit with that pivot rotating it a little bit until I found the perfect spot where the blade would move very smoothly. So my guess is that for some of you that I have read that the knife is a little stiff try rotating the pivot just a little bit and/or play with tightness. After adjusting mine the action is splendid!

Take down:

The amount of work and detail put in this thing makes it a work of art IMO

Notice the work on the stop pin to increase clearance of the blade

Notice the HUGE pivot (increased stiffness) and notice the washer details (smaller holes near the lock face to hold less lubricant near that area. Reduced contamination/wear???; held in place by a small hook/indent)

Notice how beautifully the titanium is "deformed" to trap the ceramic ball

This is my first experience with this locking system. Notice the small contact patch between the lock bar and the blade tang (only the ceramic ball is in touch)

Hope you enjoy the pics ;-)

Thank you for the awesome pictures and description of the 25! I can't wait to try one of these out. Any chance you have some equally great external shots of that beauty all assembled?

Ill make some this weekend ;)

Very nice pics! It shows a good example of the amount of grease used, I always use too much.
Thanks .

Why do you think rotating the female pivot affects the smoothness of the opening action? Do you mean the male pivot on the other side? I wonder if it's just so tight and breaking in.

Great write up and super pics. I think you nailed the description in your initial impressions:thumbup:.I received mine this past Thursday and love it birth date Feb. 11 2013, though my current E.D.C. will be hard to replace (large 21 carbon fiber) due to weight only 3.7 ounces vs 5.2 but that extra weight is well worth it as you described.Maybe the smaller holes in the washer are smaller just because of lack of space in the design. looking forward to more pics.

Great pics man. I love my 25. I haven't been able to put it down since I got it. I really like the ceramic ball for the lock interface. The lockup on my Zaan hasn't changed one bit and I tend to be an obsessive knife fondler/opener. The think that kept me from buying a Sebenza before was the fact that I tend to wreck titanium frame locks with my incessant opening & closing. Now I can play with my beautiful Sebenza as much as I want and not have to worry about messing up the lock bar.

When I took mine down to see what was inside I was intrigued by the stop pin and the way it interacts with the blade. Does anyone know the function of the scallop in the stop pin? It almost looks like rotating the stop pin will change the lockup. I don't have calipers so I couldn't check to see if it is eccentric. I can't imagine ever needing to change the lockup but it is a cool feature if that is what it does. Who knows, I may be way off on this one but I'm sure someone here can set me straight.

Very nice pics,Sebenza 25 is a work of a master knifemaker.Never seen anything like it,precision, inteligent design, everything fits perfectly in place with reason.Masterpiece.

Great pics:thumbup:. I truly am in love with my 25, its an amazing piece of engineering. Not knocking the 21 at all:) I still love it but the 25 is the king of my CRK's or at least till the inlayed one's come out. I need a micarta and a Mammoth 25 anybody else:D

Those are some great pics! I received my 25 on Friday and am not planning to take it apart in the near future, so it was great to see the insides and all the nice details. That ceramic ball is larger than I thought it would be. Is it larger than the one in the Umnumzaan?
