2500th post give away- 5th winner announced- Flamefreak01

I'm not sure how much interest there is in denim strops, I only have the spare leather to do one of them in this GAW but if there's a lot of interest in the denim strops I can add a few more of those to the pot, I have plenty of wood, glue and denim to make several of them.

So is there much interest or is everyone just gonna go for the leather one?

If anyone wants to bump my info thread in general that'd be appreciated, 6 prized and currently only 7 contestants, let's get some more people so I don't have to feel bad for the one guy who dosn't get anything, there needs to be more looser's lol.

Keroscene are you in?

Dont got any sharpening equipment other than a pocket sharpener so damn!

Got it! (And that would work, even sand paper and a mouse pad if that's what you use), sounds like you could really use some new equipment, all the more reason to get those extra chances.

Just a reminder, everyone is eligible for the green knife extra entry, just post your pic on Monday. If the knife has green on it your good, doesn't matter where/how much.

I'm in. I should note that I am only interested in the strops. My Worksharp handles my sharpening quite well, but my strop is not that good.

My sharpener is a standard Worksharp. And my terrible designed strop.

For my knife I sharpened, I tried to get a picture of my edge, but it just won't show up on camera. It is my lovely little Spyderco Domino.

Third entry here.
And I will find a green knife for the 17th .
As far as the strops. I have never used a denim, So I would be into that and or the leather one. The extremely fine Diamond is also looking nice.
Not sure what the next best step is after I work from my white sharmaker rods . I do have new leather strop on the way with compounds.
So Denim for sure and the Ultra fine diamond thing are looking good!
Any input boss>

I don't know if my basic kit is considered comparable at all, but if not then I am definitely in!

Here is a picture of last night's source of ongoing frustration. I don't know what I was doing, but my sharp edge kept vanishing on me. My work area does not usually have heart decorated items, but the silicon mat that I "borrowed" from the kitchen works great to keep the stones and strop from moving around.

Thank you, this is a cool giveaway.

This is not an entry(already made the three), Sorry if I should not have posted. Just a Question.
BTW can you tell me about denim strop and how they compare with leather. As well as the ultra fine diamond when you get a chance, they interest me alot.

The denim strops are much finer than leather, leather on its own will polish the blade without compound, denim not so much. I use my denim strop with white compound and 1um diamond paste, my leather stop I use with green and white compounds. The denim strops work great with diamond sprays and pastes but if it's all I had I'm sure it would still work with a lower grit compound (like say green or even black emery) but like I said I only use mine for white and the 1mIcron DMT-paste I have. Once I get a .5 micron paste I'll stop using the compound on the denim strop all together and use diamond on denim, compounds on leather.

Here is a great thread about denim strops, I was looking for what to do with my diamond paste when this thread came about and it looked like the best solution for me and its working great.

As for the EF DMT, it's probably closer to what someone who didn't already use diamond stones would consider fine than it is "extra fine" but it still leaves a very nice edge. After I use the EF DMT I step up to a fine & UF ceramic stone before stropping but you can strop directly off the EF DMT.

oooooooooooh, I could use that strop!! always wanted one but just haven't pulled the trigger. I wasn't even gonna enter in this GAW, but you made me an offer I cant refuse, lol.

VERY nice and generous of you!

eh found some cheap stones i used but its filled with metal from my last sharpening... its pretty much unusable so hopefully i win

I'm in. Will post pics of sharpening knife and my crumby (literally crumbling):D chinese no name wet stones I've been using tomarrow. Very nice of you to do this giveaway.Thanks.

I'm in! I freehand sharpen on a chunk of steel someone cut for me years ago, gets my knife sharper than anything I have ever used. Afterwards I hit it with some good old fashioned leather.

Since I am still up, I guess I'll start the green knife festivities...

A cheap knife that a friend gave me, and the only green knife that I own (along with a couple of Spydercos for good company).

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Ok. Here's the only stones I sharpen with. The 180 and 400 grit are awful. Big chunks of it crumble off whenever I use them but the 1500 grit is actually pretty good. All I do is free hand.Haven't really been into knives until this last year so don't have many knives and even less sharpening equipment. Will probably buy a Worksharp grinder someday day the road or at least some good diamond hone stones. I espeically can't get the Adamas shave sharp with these stones. Tried alot with descent enough results but not close to shaving sharp. MAybe the Adamas can't get really shaving sharp? Anyone else have that problem. The other two can get razor sharp with effort. Anyways. The Buck punk is Olive green and got green painter's tape on the Adamas so one of those got to count. I actually got a strop coming in about two weeks so won't have any need for those but if you'd be willing to seperate with one of those diamond hones (Espeically a coarse one)I'd be really appriciate it.HAPPY ST.PADDYS DAY Y'ALL. I'm off to get good and sick.:barf:

My green St. Patrick's Day knife with the Arkansas Stone and Leather belt (I use it to strop because I don't have an actual strop yet lol) I used to give it a true Scandi grind. It came with a micro bevel. Anyhow thanks for the chance. Not pictured are the mouse pad and various sand papers I use on occassion.
