2500th post give away- 5th winner announced- Flamefreak01

I'm in. I've been sharpening my knives free-hand on a Gatco ultra-fine ceramic hone, and stropping them on the back off a belt or wallet. I could certainly use wider stones, and real stropps.

I believe I've got the list UTD, please look over it and let me know if I've got your entries wrong.

Keep 'em coming guys, 6 more days to enter/get your photos posted. It's to late for the green knife entry now but you can still get the one additional entry with an equipment pic.

great looking set of sharpening stuff. I mainly use my crappy 4x36 modified belt grinder to sharpen my knives once they're all finished. Mainly use sandpaper for sharpening and re-profiling.

I'm in!

I bought a Spyderco Sharpmaker as my first "real" sharpening product. I just had some old cheap kitchen knife sharpener before that. I found the preset angles a little confining. So after about a month of struggling with it, I just use the Sharpmaker rods to do freehand sharpening....I am able to put a much better edge on my knives but the setup is less than ideal. I have been wanting to get some bench stones.

Thanks for the opportunity!

I'm in! Thanks for the chance... been looking to add some stuff to my sharpening set up, this would be perfect!

Ok here is what I'm working with right now... please don't laugh.

First up is my "coarse" stone. It's a combo stone with a course and fine side, I got it from Lowes a while back for ~$10, the fine side is still coarser than my next two grits (at least I think) so I use it as my medium grit.

Next are my "fine" and "ultra fine" stones. They are 600 and 1000 grit stones from a Lansky guided system I used to use. *Again don't laugh* I used to use the stones in hand but eventually rigged up this base out of layered cardboard tightly bound by duct tape and with a slot cut into it to hold the stones. Looks ghetto as all get out but works fine for me

Finally my strop. I made this one a few weeks ago and never looked back... I had always stropped on a bare leather belt and never got that great of results. I chalked it up to poor technique but one day I got crafty and acquired all the needed materials for <$10 and threw this together. It has taken my edges to a whole new level with basic green compound from Lowes.

And here is my 801 that I sharpened to a mirror edge (for my standards!).

I'm really hoping to score that fine DMT stone or one of the lower grit diamond stones since those Lansky stones are pretty hard to work with (good with recurves!) and my coarse stone is pretty clogged and kind of a POS to begin with

Again thanks for the chance!

List should be UTD as of this post. Entries accepted threw this weekend guys. Also, please check your entries in m first post and confirm that I have you correct. If not let me know now!

I have the denim strop made up, still working on the leather one. It will take a little while to get threw all the winners (one at a time) anyway so I've got time.

Allright guys that's it, no more entries, I'll get things sorted out and start the prize drawings in this same thread. Feel free to post in the mean time but no posts below this will count as entries.

I am waiting with a big smile.
I hope I get to choose something,
you know where I am at as far as what I am trying to achieve.
Good luck to me today :) exciting,
Matt

Allright guys drawings will be happening starting tomorrow! I will PM winners (remember chosen one at a time) as well as post them here.

One thing I'm sorry about, I wasn't able to get the lather to make a leather strop, instead I made a pair of denim ones which I think are really nice with leather thong wrapped handles.
