Recommendation? 3´´ flipper under 50$

ontario rat 2 in carbon fibre (ply over g10, good combo imho) - aus8 steel and only $40 is a great value

much tougher steel than d2, if you intend on using it hard since it's 0.8% carbon

AUS-8 tougher than D2? I think you mean the other way around, AUS-8 might be more corrosion resistant but that's about it.

0.8% carbon vs 1.5% ... d2 charpy toughness tests are more than twice as bad as aus8... there is a lot of info on the forums and elsewhere

d2 is just about the worst steel for any abusive situations. If you respect that, the edge retention is super excellent, it will stay sharp much much longer than aus8

1.5% carbon makes it super high in carbides, which will give the phenominal edge retention, but at the cost of toughness

The Kershaw Atmos is a great choice.

You also might consider:
Kizer Mini Sheepdog (can be found for less than $60)
Spyderco Efficient
Ruike Front Flipper
Kershaw Flythrough or Method.

It's hard to find a perfect knife for under $50. That being said, I was pleased with the CRKT Deviation at it's price point.

I have just received my Atmos yesterday
Thanks to all of you for your great recommendations
This nice is increadible and suffers no comparison to the skyline

Here are some first impressions:

The first thing that has surprised me was how light it is. Lighter that the skyline, and much better in my hand than the skyline.
Ergonomics have been “love at first touch” so to speak ;)

But then the plastics feeling shocked me
The skyline has a solid piece of g10 with a grippy texture in it and it is rigid handle in hand
The g10 on the skyline don’t have much texture and feels plastics. It is very thin and narrow and as some kind of flex
Then I realized the interest of the CF inlays: they bring rigidity to the handle
Where there is CF the handle is rigid, where there is only g10 it flex s little bit under pressure

Looking at the CF it is very nice to my eyes and in my hand

Overall there is not much texture on the handle but the shape allows a good grip on it
That will be fine for an urban EDC

The only texture is on the flipper tab
There are some agressive jumping in it and it dig into your finger with « determination »
I didn’t n’y feel like I will play with it for hours, it will hurt quite rapidly I think

The action is what has impressed me the most
It is in a completely different league than the skyline
The fêtent is strong and as the blade is light it fly out like nothing
I prefer its action the the one of my 0562cf
I think that the combination of strong detent, good flipper tan geometry, ball bearings and light blade work great in this knife
That is incredible for that price and I never manager to fail the opening
My skyline is just meeeeuh compared to the atmos

The lockbar is thin. Not something I appreciate but clearly that is an office kind of knife and it may have been a slipjoint it won’t have been a problem
The lock up is good in mine but I prefer the lockbar on th skyline... but again nothing wrong with the use I will have of the Atmos

In the pocket ... the clip is magic
I think that the pocket clip is (with the action) one of the great succès in this knife
Not an indestructible clip but a great light and deep carry one

The blade geometry is great and it is a good slicer
Better than the skyline
I prefer the stonewash and the steel in the skyline however

Not convinced by the steel, I will have to just after some time but for the price... nothing to complain or to argue about

So at the end for 30$ It is a great option

Thanks again for helping me to choice this one

The Kershaw Chill is a handy little budget flipper. (under $25 bucks) It's thin, and fairly small, but they manage to get a full 3.1" blade in there.
