Last weekend I went on a 3 day backpacking trip into the Superstition Mountains of Arizona. Beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery.

After getting off the highway we had several miles of dirt road to the trail head. After the ubiquities group shot we began a pleasant 3 day weekend.

We all had anywhere from 35 to 65 pounds on our backs; not exactly going light but we didn’t freeze at night. I am too old for that.

Plenty of water in the streams.

Found a nice flat area to set up for the evening.

Great shade for the desert but the weather was perfect, in the low 70’s.

Looks like a great trip.

Still loads of snow here so hiking is a couple of months off..

65 lbs?!

Great pictures, looks like you guys had a great time! Nice big group too. I love the Arizona landscape, but do you have to be superstitious to hike those mountains? Or does spending time in those mountains make you superstitious?

Good to see some people going heavy. I know the current trend seems to be faery weight with a twig whittler, less is more and the bad case of the emperor's new clothes and all that, but any fool can be uncomfortable. I'd expect to be hauling about 50 lbs or so on a trip like that too. It's got handles - it means you can carry it - it's the law.

Looks like a great trip - who stuck with the tarp shelter and how did they enjoy it?

Thanks for posting. Great pics and a great area. I was out to southern Arizona the beginning of this month and the weather is great compared to Ohio this time of year.

Great pics, thanks for sharing. My brother used to live in AZ and I have lots of good memories camping, hiking and rafting with him there. Your pics took me back.

That last pic around the fire is great, perfect way to end a great day
