I lived in Lexington, KY for three years and grew to enjoy the local drink....BOURBON. I used to be a Scotch man. I like Makers a lot, but my favorite is Woodford Reserve. Great stuff. :D

maybe I've always just been a cheap drunk, thus the reason I've never heard of Woodford Reserve, I am however familiar with Crown and always thought that was the best hands down.. I really don't drink anymore but will have one on occasion, guess I'm just out of the loop.

I don't know if i'm more impressed by the knives or the whiskey...

woodford reserve... gonna have to try that.
i started on crown royal, but my current favorite is knob creek...

I'll drink pretty much any decent bourbon honestly. High end stuff I'll take on the rocks and sip on, lower tier stuff I'll mix and chug away. Don't really care...I truly love bourbon. Wonderful invention. :D Either way, paired with ESEE knives, it's good stuff.

I'm sure some will say knives and alcohol don't mix(and they might be right) but honestly after a long day at work, a couple drinks and a session of knife sharpening...it's pretty darn relaxing I gotta say....haven't cut myself...yet.

Ahh geez! I guess I would put my ESEE-3mil with a Pabst Blue Ribbon lol

drinkin one as we speak...the parents are in town visiting, the pops and i threw a couple back. for me it's the esee-6 though...that's all i've got...for now ha.

Makers is a little overrated, in my opinion. If you're sippin' bourbon (rocks, please) I prefer Woodford Reserve, it's the best stuff out there.

Yes, Makers Mark isn't even considered very good Bourbon here where Bourbon is made. Try some Woodford reserve, it's probably the best there is for affordable bourbon and there are many better than Makers in that price range. Knob creek, Evan Williams single barrel, Russels Reserve, etc. Of course if you want to spend some money there's probably a dozen bourbons better than Makers. Still, it's not horrible like Very old Barton. :D

Maker's is far from the best bourbon. Knob Creek, Woodford, Evan single barrel, and several others are better. I still maintain that Maker's is the best in its price range. Around here at least.

Prices probably vary from location to location. I've found Evan Williams single barrel for $19.99 here and no doubt that's cheaper than Makers. Woodford runs between $27-32 usually. The Russel's Reserve was in the mid $20's and very nice.
Check out this link for some other suggestions. They rank Makers as their number 8 choice. Not bad.

I thought you were EDC'ing an ESEE 3
I was....well I have an EDC rotation but since the Izzy is new I have to give it a chance as well.:thumbup:
I also have a HEST coming that will be tried out for EDC.:rolleyes:

I agree that Makers is not the BEST and I also agree that Knob Creek is better. I will keep my eyes open for the Woodford Reserve. ;)
I had a bottle of Buffalo Trace as well but that has been my least favorite so far.
Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the link!!!!!
I will be looking for a few of those bottles.
Selection round here is far from great.

I'm really anxious to try Bookers and Wild Turkey.

Makers is great. What else I like about them is the fact they only have one grade. No black label, blue label, red label. It is also not blended!

The only one on the list that I haven't tried is the Stag although the Pappy Van Winkle I had was the 23 year which is possibly the best bourbon in the world if you can even find it.
Not counting the Pappy, the Woodford Reserve is my favorite from that list but I'd take any of them.

Makers Mark really is the best bourbon. I love that stuff, I would be having a glass of it right now but like everybody else I just ran out. Oh and if you get the chance swing by and check out the distillery, they have the best tour out of all of the distillery's on the Bourbon Trail.

i tried woodford reserve and to me it's okay. i tried a bunch of others and maker's mark tastes the best for me. 2nd is jim beam. judging alcohol is very subjective so i don't even pay attention to what others say is best.

i'd say buy a different bottle a week and do a taste test. or grab a few buddies and each one should bring a different bottle one night and you should be blind-folded. oh yeah, after 20 min any attempt at a very scientific taste test goes out the window though :D

I wonder if you poured a glass and stuck your izula or?? in there if it would strip the finish:D

jack daniels will do that. it burns my throat it might as well be jet fuel. talk about putting hair on your chest! jack daniels single barrel is much smoother but it's too expensive for an everyday drink though.

Thanks for the link. Some of those I hadn't even heard of. I'll look for them next time I go to a decent liquor store.

One thing I personally REALLY liked about Knob Creek was that it is 100 proof but still had an EXCELLENT flavor.
