3 inch slicer FFG

Yeah for the price that design with s110v is awesome. Right now it is definitely tipping the scales. I like my Manix a lot and I know I'll like this one even better.

Thanks for the suggestion on the urban trapper. I like it a lot but it's a little long and I'm not huge on the holey handle.

Ya, The holey handle isn't for everybody... Just to let u know the holes r slightly chamfered and are polished which i think looks pretty cool... If you're open to one more suggestion the Buck vantage pro in s30v is another VERY slicy knife with a 3.25" blade ($60)

What about a spyderco caly 3?
Regarding the urban trapper, look up the wooden scaled versions. No holes and nice stabilized slabs.

On the ZT 770, I have one in M4 and I Love it! I picked it up on the exchange for around the price of an Elmax version. It deassisted just fine, just leave the steel plate in it and pull the spring out. Adjusting the centering can be a bit tedious, but my CFm4 flips fine with good centering.

A 1.5 - 2 hour soak in hydrogen peroxide was used to loosen the DLC which I wet/dry sanded with 800 grit to an impromptu black wash.
As for caly 3 I'm trying to stay away from lockback for this knife.

I will look up the wood trappers later, thanks.

That 770 is beautiful.

Right now I'm definitely between the Manix LW s110v and 0770cf.

Unscrew scales, take out the bar that acts as a spring, screw back together, enjoy knife. I would say if you wanted to put the assist back in its harder but taking it out is super easy if you have the correct size bits for the screws.
Easy enough, thanks.

While I love me some Manix 2, I think the ZT 0770 is more what you're looking for. Just deassist it if you don't like the feature...It's pretty simple to do. Also, the aluminum handled version is on sale at BladeHQ right now!

See there's so many knives I forget about when looking. The buck is nice for under 70 bucks for sure.

Thanks for the bladehq heads up!

I'm up in the air right now between the two. I've never had a zt so I want one.
But I have a older Manix that I love.

Buy one off of the exchange, if you don't like it sell it to pay for the other.

To make it easier, buy whichever comes up first.

To be fair, I have owned a manix 2 s30v ffg, manix 2 lw s110v, did the blade swap so I had a g10 s110v manix 2, and then promptly sold it.
I still have my zt770. Only because I prefer the M4 edge over the s110v edge.

That said, If the right price came along for a manix 2, I would buy another.

Good idea.

Seems like it could lead to a snowball effect.

Hey I can buy all of these, I'll just sell them if I don't like...

You can, but once they are in the knife drawer/box/cabinet/closet, they are hard to part with again...

If you want a pure slicer with a 3" blade get a Spyderco Chaparral. The Benchmade 707 is not bad, either.

There are so many spydies that would be perfect. I don't think a lockback would be ideal for my situation, but maybe I need to take another look. It would definitely open my options up.

Dig the chaparral, not liking the 707 so much.

Thanks for the ideas.

I will just say Spyderco does the lockback extremely well. All that I've had could easily be closed one handed. The blades of my native 5s (I have both g-10 and LW) will fall closed slightly when the lockbar is depressed making one handed operation a breeze. And with a finger choil, no worries about it falling on your finger. Both are rock solid also...no play whatsoever. My G-10 N5 is my dedicated backup. I can't say enough good things about them.
I did not mention the N5 earlier BC you stated no lockback, but if you reconsider, it is the one I'd get.

Ok, here's one more I don't think was mentioned, but a great all-around blade. Have you looked at any HK's yet? Made by Benchmade. The HK Axis, with D2 blade, G-10 slabs, and of course the Axis lock. Standard size 3.6" and Mini with 2.88" blades. Some people like/want the exact feature of the Grip/MiniGrip, but are turned off by the plastic handles. The HK Axis is similar in size and action, but with G10 handles....now in both black and sand.

Another at least "worth a look". If you have someplace to handle knives, this is another one that you WILL want after fondling. Not really a "super steel" but I really like my D2's. Takes a great edge, and so far, keeps a great edge.

Oh, and by the way, threads like this really suck. I always end up seeing something else that I don't have, but now want.

Yeah its a beautiful looking knife too.

I'm now seeing that there are quite a few options...choosing will be the tough part. You think you would prefer the N5 over a manic lw in s110v?

Arg. So many choices, so little money. This upcoming year entails a wedding, honeymoon, new dog and possibly children.

I wish I had a place to handle knives. It would make this process a bit easier, I believe. Luckily I have handled a HK. My future brother in law has one.
Honestly I'm the opposite of your thoughts. I prefer the grips plastic handles. The g10 on the HK models is just too grippy and rough for me. I could smooth them but I think the spydies and ZT are better options for me.

Well that depends on its purpose. As a primary, I like around a 3.5" blade, so the Manix I would definitely prefer in that regard. As a back-up, dress knife, or more inconspicuous blade, the N5 wins out.
BTW the Manix 2 and Native 5 are my two favorite Spydercos, so I can't tell you which is better, they just serve different purposes.

Fair enough. I guess I just have to think on it a bit more. Thanks for all of the help and input.
