3 new traditionals, one disappointed knife fan

OK well Im a little disappointed to say the least today. I got 3 new knives, a case sod buster, a buck creek dirt buster, and a buck 110 and each has a problem. The case's Blade is no where near centered and the handles arent even close to being symmetrical. The buck creek has the worse uneven grind I've ever seen, so bad that it almost looks like a chisel grind and that blade is also off center, and the buck (well I knew it was a display model) had what seemed to be rust on the lock button and has blade play. Today was gonna be a good day and now I'm just disappointed. Anyone else have these issues?

Now I'm gonna keep em since I wanted to make them users but still I'd like good quality.

Being a happy knife fan today (you can see why in this same forum), I'm sorry that you are disappointed.
I don't have any of those knives and I can't speak for their quality (although I'm quite surprised, especially for the Buck).
Lately, there was a thread about quality in traditional knives. Unfortunately, it seems that more than one brand has some QC problems, and can't maintain the same quality in their knives, thus creating a "consistency issue". Others here can speak alot more about this matter. I can just share your disappointment though.

Send the 110 to buck and they will clean it up and put an awesome edge on it.

I'd have to see a picture of the Case Sodbuster before I believe these issues you're claiming.

Blade off-center, on a $20 work knife, I just don't believe it.

Considering there are plenty of case sodbusters that have perfect centering... I would be a little upset as well.

I'm just disappointed with how much everyone raves about case and the knife I got not only wasn't centered but each scale looks like they came from different knives. They don't even look close to the same shape

I second this for sure.

As for the Case Sodbuster, I have owned several and all of them were off-centered, most to the point of rubbing the liners. I use them as guinea pigs, and for any work that will probably damage the blade.

Weird, maybe I spoke too soon! Mine are perfectly centered as are the ones at work. I am going to go double check the ones at work now.

There are also plenty of Case sodbusters that aren't perfectly centered. I have five relatively recent models; none are 'perfect'. Luck of the draw, and I don't really expect perfect centering on this model anyway. As mentioned, it's a true 'work knife', made about as basic as can be. That's the spirit behind the 'sod buster' concept in the first place. It was never designed to be perfect, but just a solid user (and they are).

I have never owned a Sodbuster but I would think that the blade should be centered. It's just part of proper construction. There isn't anything wrong with a work knife having a centered blade.

Every Case I have bought or have been given, not high end mind you, have not been centered nor were their scales the same thickness or shape on either side from the early 70's until now. Fit and finish are never the same. But for the price point at which they were I expected nothing better. They were mostly the yellow delrin models. They are/were great user knives, however. YMMV

I was typing when you posted about the Sodbusters. Mine have all been right up to, if not hitting the liners. I think I only have 2 right now, I will snap a pic in just a minute.

A SS and CV side by side. These are fairly typical in my experience.

I have been experimenting with blade etching on the CV. you can see where it hits the liner, the etching is sort of scraped off.

Looking forward to it. I must have got lucky! Most of the knives I have from my grandpa (case) are almost perfect too, his were a little higher end though.

I got a Soddie that is just off center. 2 others have been way off. It has never bothered me. It really doesn't affect performance. If you want a perfect one I think you'd have to go to a shop and go through quite a few boxes to find the perfect one. The Bucks should be sent in.

This is how 4 out of 5 of the sodbuster I just checked were. All were yellow derlin. The one buster was off center but was not hitting the liner.

I just ordered a cv sodbuster from knife center when mine comes in I will post on here if it is centered or not

I would think that even for a $20 knife I'd expect better. That sucks Clich.

I've owned a few sodbusters, and they are not perfect knives. They are great work knives but many of them are not pretty. I have two Case soddies, and one had an uneven grind and the other rubs up against the liner. For 15 dollars you can't expect perfection.
