Gonna get these in the mail today. They're going all over.
No expectations, but if there's followup stuff to post, it'll get posted here :)

Lorien,

Love the lines on that fighter, upswept, with the sweeping plunge right into the flow of the guard.

Very cool. Do you have any makers in mind yet?

yessir! When I come up with patterns these days, a lot of times I usually have a maker in mind and kind of try to decipher their approach so I can come up with something they'd want to make. This is especially important, because I cannot afford to have these knives made for me, but that's generally not the point. If a knife maker wants to make a knife based on one of my patterns, they're free to do it, so if I can help them make some money at their craft, and at the same time see my visions become reality, I consider it a win-win. Even if I never get to handle the knife.

Some guys make knives and call it a hobby, I guess my hobby is drawing knives. Wouldn't mind calling it a profession one day, but for now I just enjoy putting the pencil, (and eraser more often than not) to paper.

Lorien I just wanted to say that you do a fantastic job designing knives, which is probably my biggest hurdle in knifemaking. Keep up the good work! Who knows, maybe one day I will get the priveledge to work with you on something. :)

drop me a line any time, Adam! One of the great pleasures in life is working with people who want to work with me :)

I'm angling for at least one of these patterns to become a Pay it Forward knife, hence my earlier thread regarding custom knives and charity.

thanks for the uplifting comments, guys! It's greatly appreciated.

Well, it´s the bottom one that rocks my boat.

Lorien,

like others have said, there is no mistaking your talent for design. Please keep em coming.

Brian

Three very nice designs, Loren. I am curious, what size are you proposing for that middle one. It looks like it could do some serious chopping!

All great looking designs. Will the middle one be done in 3V? I think someone with the initials S.B. would do that design proud in W2 with a smokin' hamon. Just my opinion.;)

thanks guys, I wasn't sure how this thread would be received and your kind words make me happy. However, if any of you have any thoughts you'd like to share that are less 'kumbaya' in nature, I'm all ears, (or eyes, technically)

the persian influenced pattern I've been working on for several months off and on. It's changed quite a lot when it comes to the details over that time, but the overall profile has stayed pretty much the same since day one. It's about 15" overall.

The khukuri is pretty close to my heart, its design is based on something I'd really like to use and what I think would work well for my uses, which incidentally does not include ritually beheading animals. I got a glimpse of the wood that is going to be used for the handle and it is amazing looking, sturdy stuff. I drew on some contour lines to show the shaping for the handle instead of shading. They aren't supposed to be wood grain but kinda look that way.

The sword-looking-thing has a 14" blade and about 10" handle. I do believe Dan Keffler will be taking on that particular project, and when the time comes, it will be seeing some good use in my local rainforest :) It was inspired by the recent waki style blade Dan posted up here recently, but is more suited to my uses.

Wow Lorien, just have to echo everyones comments here. Great designs mate. Can hardly wait to see these finished :D
Cheers Keith

that is a great opinion! The thought had certainly crossed my mind, but I am working on special for him...

you ready to do your part? ;)

I think the Persian with the S-guard is really cute...has a lot going for it.
