3 year old batoning!

Your overreaction detracts from a lovely thread.

The little un's big brothers look just fine, so I guess that the excellent parants are doing just fine!

And have been doing so for many years...

I agree that it looks like the parents have been doing fine so far, and probably will in the future.

I was reacting to kurodrago basically calling udtjim an idiot for caring whether a child puts his eye out. He obviously does care, and I do, too.

And yes, I has been an exceptionally nice thread, and the kids are really cute. I'd like to see them stay that way.

Now that you mention it, if you are going to hit steel with a rock, you damn sure should have safety glasses on. The day I lost my eye, I had a pair of safety glasses in the truck. Why didnt I have them on? Because I sure never planned on that little piece of steel going right through my eye. We never plan on things like that but they happen every day and not always to the other guy. If you want to teach a kid to do something, then teach them how to do it right. Pardon me but the second that I saw that picture, the alarms went off in my mind. I am living with one eye because I was careless maybe I should mind my own business but I can't not mention it when I see obvious danger. If that offends you, feel free as hell to ignore me.

What are you doing here:D
Fantastic pic, lovely kid:)

How you know that? By experience? By see the pic? because they don't have safety+eyeglasses?
Enlighten us!?

Yes kuro, I sneak over here too!! Put me on your friends list! Looks like it's "Destiny" to be Friends! GOD Bless!:)

You good men don't argue, let's keep this nice!
And yes am proud of all of my kids!!GOD Bless!!

udtjim, with all my respect towards you, there is way and ways to share the pain, experience and definitely a good opinion.
If I lost a leg because a drunk+drive, I can't shout the hell to everybody that crossing thought the road, I tell them is unsafe dangerous, you know can happen to you too.
This thread is about a father+kids having good time.
In this forum and in the real life maybe people can feel sorry for you but in reality "because"the don't know what to say except that!
They don't know what they're talking about they don't understand YOU!

Reminds me of a blog I read about a guy in either Finland or Alaska....he spent time with a the family following a huge herd of deer and hunting.... Everyone had puuko's including the 3 year old. Little mini-puuko's in their little hands and already experts at cutting their own meat directly from a kill.
Great pictures!

is this another good thread lost to personal issues, come on guys PM is there for a reason.
He was just worried about a cool little kid, udtjim was giving a valuable tip to everyone here. I know someone who almost lost an eye to grinding a wheelwell on his truck, he has 20% left in his eye and bitches about his no eye wear decision.

I am not trying to fan flames but everyone needs to relax a little on ripping on posts that really mean well although they might bother you personally. (I am guilty as well but am making an effort )

Back to kids and pics please, dad had me help with the trapline and cleaning fish from 4yrs or so and love seeing similar.

regards

Ever watch documentaries/videos of primitive tribes? Some of those kids know how to use a knife better than I do by the time they are 3.

I agree - Native Americans gave their children bows and arrows at age two and Inuit tribes have 3-year-olds lighting and tending their fires at night by themselves while they sleep. My two-year-old is already capable of shooting a bow and arrow.

Awesome pics! Great to see a little kid doing what they should - learning the ways of their parents! :D

"At night, when the women go to sleep, they have a "Boyer" to tend the woodstove. This persons Job is to keep that woodstove fired up just right all night long. He stays awake by himself, and does his chores. He melts clean snow to wash dishes, clean out the thermoses, make new Hot coffee, Tea, Hot chocolate by using Ice. Bring the new thermoses down to the hunters, and pick up the empties and get ready to refill them. He is busy choppng wood with an axe. Using very sharp knives, he cuts sicpan, which is extremely flammable (seal oil), add too much and you will burn down that tent.He has all dishes washed and new coffee, tea ready for when the cooks wake up. He has to keep a sharp eye out for cracks in the ice, anything can happen out here, at any time, be alert.l The wind is constantly being watched for any signs of "shifting", He is armed with many rifles in case of polar beat attacks.
Lie down, go to sleep and hand your lighter and matches over to this 3 year old child... GO TO SLEEP! He is well trained !"

Awesome my Brother! Thanks, means a lot!

We all think that, for your kids sake, I hope you are right. I am sorry that I was concerned for your son, it won't happen again. My last word is that any fool that will let his kid pound on a steel blade with a rock or brick, has a hell of a lot to learn and that is the kindest way that I can say idiot. You won't hear from me again, that should make you happy.

I'm sorry that you are unable to attempt to make a point without insulting the OP.

If you feel the need to insult a parent on the forum, I for one am glad that you will not be posting again.

You should be concerned at your lack of maturity and insulting posting!

I can well understand, and support, Jim's point. In exchange for showing some concern for a child, for wanting to save a child's eye, a couple of people jumped all over him.

Is it wrong to want to help someone? I don't think so, and I understand quite well why Jim wouldn't want to come back to this thread.

I have to question why you would be happy to see a good — and helpful — man like him driven from a thread where he's only shown concern for a child's welfare. Don't you think people should show concern for others and try to help?

If not, what does that say about you? You might want to think about that one.

Which part of the above remains unclear to you?

My points are that 'Jim' insults a parent on the forum.

I guess that even 'Jim' knows the difference between Concern and Insult.

I believe that a person whom insults a parent on the forum evidently lacks maturity.

Concern and help for others differs greatly from publicly insulting on forum.

About the only thing that I might want to think about, is, which part of the above remains unclear to you?

I'll chime in with there's no way my 4-year old had the coordination to have a knife. He trips on invisible rocks.

Take a run at me too, I support and agree with Jim.

Losing an eye would definitely temper my (or yours if you think about it) responses to this thread.
It might possibly be the last somewhat cavalier post by the OP that triggered the terse response.
I have worked as a first aid level III and have been very annoyed at someone willfully disregarding good advice and common sense.

I do not want to insult the OP in anyway but my German Grandpa farmer would have smacked my dad in the head for possibly endangering his grandchild's eyesight no matter how remote the possibility.

Now to lighten things up, how many people reading this thread keep thinking about a red ryder bb gun, a daydreaming boy and the immortalized quote......

"YOU'LL SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT!!"

Or, more importantly, what remains unclear to you?

Yes, Jim reacted after he was insulted. Sorry, but the fact that someone is a parent doesn't magically make them right. The proper thing to do, in my opinion, would have been for the OP to simply say something like "Oh my gosh, you're right. I should protect my son's eyes, and I'll do that in the future." That would have been the end of it.

I'm curious myself why you're jumping in here with such an insulting attitude yourself?
