30 Days of Becker, BK16 Again

Definitely the RBK! Maybe a heavier model as well.

I would like to see a folder with a similar size (possibly a little bit smaller) and shape blade to the BK11 and BK14. I think that with the addition of the shorts this year, Becker's products cover most jobs that people use a fixed blade. It would be nice to be able to get a very strong / durable folder that has the same quality and comfort as the Becker line of knives. Also I think some people who only carry folders might be introduced to Beckers if there was something in the market that they shop. If someone isn't looking for a fixed blade knife, they will completely overlook Beckers. Once that same person buys a folder by Becker they might look into the rest of what Becker makes.

I realize Kabar doesn't deal much in steels outside of their current lineup, but I would absofrickinlutely love it if they found some S30V and started pumpin out the BK77 again. BK7 was my first foray into big Beckers, and big knives for that matter, and it is still my favorite knife. I don't think I could find another knife in the lineup to take my top spot award away from my Seven. That is unless ofcourse I find a BK77.

I live on the west-coast of BC, and spend most of my time outdoors camping and fishing in rainforests, wading across rivers, boating and beachcombing the shores...alot of time around water. Now don't get me wrong, I understand that if I was practical, I wouldn't strip my blades and open em up to all kinds of oxidization and rust, but I like my knives like I like my women, sharp and pretty. I don't want em covered in black paint. My BK7 was the first to get stripped, and hand polished. It took days, but I got it up to mirror shine, and I'll be damned if after throwing some micarta on the girl, she didn't look just like a BK77. Even with all the polishing and a thin coat of olive oil, after spending 8 hours in a constant downpour, my seven was beginning to grow some rust spots. Removing the scales a few days later showed even more on the tang. Alas, my seven LOOKED like a BK77, but it was still carbon steel. I will not be able to hang this over my waders and cross rivers without a second thought, or leave it in the storage bin on the boat for a month or two. I would kiss a cobra to get a BK7 made of valyrian steel, but the S30V would be pretty close I think. If Kabar ever decided to do a run of BK77s, I would forego knife purchases for a year just to get one. It would be my grail becker.

one wonders what it would cost to nickle plate a blade these days?

or a TiNi coating?

or something...

I vote either the Reinhardt or a folder a la the design Dawson Bob had.

The Reinhardt because we don't have a thin machete type blade available to us, as well as simply because it is one of the best choppers to ever be put out by BK&T.

Folder cause that one that DB drew up way back when is pretty freakin awesome, and something like that would make a lot of people happy. Someone here had one made, and it was freakin awesome.

I'm good with a BK1 & a BK6. Now for something totally different, how about a BKXLNessmuk. One with a 12" blade, 1/4" FFG & a little longer handle, like a hand & 1/2.
Or a BK Cleaver, a big BAMO like the old ones you can't buy anymore. Full width, full tang, Standard Becker handle, only a little longer, same/like this one ^^^^^. Handle tang would be 1/2", then taper to 1/4" at the blade spine tip, & have a convexed edge. Like this one, only better & improved & stronger & made of 1095 Cro-Van.

You just can't find a good super HD cleaver anymore.

1) RBK.

want. bad.

my logic:
i've got a 16 (or a 17, or a 15, whichever one floats your boat).
i've got a 2 (or a 10, or a 7 or a 77).
i've got a 9 (or a 7 or a 77, or a machax i guess)
--and that covers me for most of my knife needs.

-for HEAVY chopping, axe time.
-for light chopping and clearing brush: 9 is ok, machax is better, but we need something with a little more reach. and the aesthetics of the RBK are just fantastic. i lust after one. it's a great brush clearing/light chopping blade that would fill a niche not currently covered by a Becker. i know the machax is good for this, i'd personally like a longer blade for brushwork.

2) that S30V BK-16 that we hear whispers of hints of possibilities of. that would be special. the two i've already got (fpr, ffg) work great. but THAT. that would be magical. holding an S30V BK-16 would give me the same feeling in my pants as seeing a leprechaun ride a pegasus underneath a double rainbow into a fountain of hot lava.

+1 on both the BK6 and RBK coming back. We need a BAMF chopper! (not hating on the 9 :o)

Just opened a thread about how glorious it would be to have a sabre grind 16. Just like one of our horned moderators... I also would love to see the Brute back in rotation, not to mention how much fun i'd have seeing all the Beckerheads using it on here.

Folder would be good. I know it's not going to happen anytime soon with all the stuff Kabar has going on, plus, the amount of time it takes to design it, etc.

But, a Becker folder would be sweet.

A 10 would be good too. (or something similar) Sold my LE and regret it already, but was making room for some stuff.

And an "Eskabar II" (a 14 with a longer handle, like the Izula II)

This would be the "show your work part" :D

I'd have to vote for the RBK. I love kukri, and it's just something that I think would really supplement the Becker lineup. There's nothing else in the lineup that's quite like it, although there are plenty of choppers, there's nothing that's really that size, and Ka-bar could really do it well. It would be by far the best quality kukri at that price point.

In no particular order:
BK2LE 3/8" Canvas, no finish...
BK10 1/2"
BK11 sized 13
BK13 sized 11
BK6 1/2"
Someone should take a run over to Wauseon OH ;) and swipe some INFI :D and spit out as many Brutes as possible  ;)

I say the RBK, here's why:
it's extremely elegant and well-balanced.
it chops like a demon
it snap cuts like a banshee
it indexes well as a function of balance
it teaches you how to use it properly, seriously, it snaps itself during the cut
it's been some time since it was in production
I would love to see what tweaks Mr. Becker and Tooj etc. would make to improve it.

barring that,
an upsized version of the Bk-9 (11-12") or an uber-machax (longer, wider)
people absolutely love the 9 for it's great handling and long length. there is always a draw to the biggest there is. How far can we push the design and still get the same result?
The Machax is a beast. but I hear a lot of people expect it to be larger than it is (imo, this is because it works like it's bigger) Imagine if it was bigger and maybe a little wider... bears would run from it. birds would flee the trees when you unsheath it. small children would cry at the mere sound of the thunk it makes as it melts through wood as if it were jello. :D

After handling the protos....and like I said to Mr. Ethan at the time, if he convinces KaBar to make the 14 sized 13....I will buy a few. I really like that blade, love a clip point!

I can't believe I forgot to take pics of those....

I would like to see Ethans take on a fillet knife. Maybe use the tweener handle and make it about the size of the Bk-15 but with a nice sharp flexible blade and a square spine for scaling fish.

Not sure how to show my work but I would buy fillet knife designed by Mr. Becker.

I'm certainly not smart about this stuff but for a new addition I'm with warrior on the nessmuk... for a ressurrection the RBK, methinks... and I'm not good at work and got none to show...

KHUKURI! It seems the other bases are covered pretty well. The CS Gurkha is about the only game in town for a modern, high quality, bullet-proof khukuri. It's a great blade, but BKT could improve the design (full-sized tang for one thing). I wouldn't want it to weigh over 23 ounces. I have many khukuri and find that weight, in a 17" OAL, to be easy to carry, swing, control, etc. If you go heavier, you end up with a good chopper, but it looses the control and swingability (in Texas we make up words:)) needed to clear brush or trail blaze. Big choppers are fun, but a good khuk which can chop well and also be used to clear lighter vegetation is much more useful to me in the outdoors. The military khukri from the WWII era fit into this 17.5" and 23-25 oz. category and they were snatched up by allied aircrews in large numbers in case they were shot down in the jungle. I don't know the specs of the RBK, but would think a 1/4" spine with the proper grind would work well and still fit the weight. Even 3/16" would likely be plenty good from what I hear about the steel BKT uses. I think BKT would sell a boat load of the RBK. Thanks.
