The 300win mag has a little more case capacity. The 300 WSM is very close with 180 and under bullets. When you go over around 180ish the 300 gains a very slight advantage, but if your not hand loading heavy bullets it doesn't matter. I like the accuracy of the 300 short mag(the win mag is no slouch). I read that one of the bog companies switched from a 308 and a 300 win mag to just a 300 WSM for all .30 cal bullet testing. Get the x bolt. They are awesome rifles.How does the .300 WSM compare to the win mag? I've been considering an X bolt in WSM.
I love the Model 70. Wish I had a left handed one. 300 Win Mag is a sweet round, if a person can shoot it well they are set for anything on this side of the pond.
