$300....

I just placed an order for one of these bad boys, a Microtech Socom Elite in CTS-204P (M390 equiv.). According to Jdavis882 (CrimsonTideShooter) the variation he had in Duratech 20CV (same as 204P and M390 basically) is the best performing knife he has tested so far. I love a good, thin edge. $255 and they also have the carbon fiber insert version in CPM S35VN.

Good thread, I've got big hands as well and also prefer a beefier knife offering.

Have you checked out the Microtech Whalesharks?

A couple people have mentioned saving more money for a sebenza. 1.) I will probably get flamed for this, but I honestly have zero interest in a Sebenza. 2) I could buy a CRK or Hinderer now, but I've given myself a cap of $300 and I'm forcing myself to stay at that price point for now.

how about the spyderco tuff:

I have to say, since I've seen the Tuff, something has attracted me to it. I need to read some more reviews I think. But it's a possibility for sure.

The Benchmade Adamas is also worth looking at for your large hands.
I've never owned a Benchmade, but I keep hearing people rave about the Axis lock. I'd really like to hold an Adamas though, it looks like its indestructible.

I've seen them, and I just can't like the ergonomics of the knife. I'm sure it's a wonderful knife, but I just can't like it for some reason.

from what i have read about the spyderco tuff, it's a tank and locks up like a vault.

along with the adamas (model 275) another benchmade to look at is the 810 contego.

That Contego looks AWESOME! The ergos look a little funky, but overall, it looks really nice.

OK, second option. Instead of a knife, should I just get a wicked edge? I use a sharpmaker now, with ultra fine stones and a Strop block. I am getting kind of sick of the sharpmaker and the inconsistencies that come with it. Just a thought....
Help me out here!!! :)

it's not the wicked edge, but you could buy both the spyderco tuff and a lansky 3 stone diamond kit (LK3DM) for $300

p.s. you can also add different grits and stones and even a leather strop to that kit.

or, you could get the benchmade 275 and 810 plus the lansky kit for about $325 total ;)

That's a very good point. I've personally never used a lansky, but I know other people swear by them. For some reason, I'd feel scared to put my 0560 or that Contego or that Tuff On one. Is that dumb to think that way??

why would you feel scared? the lansky kit is jig that holds the knife and the stones are guided with rods, similar to the the wicked egde. the wicked edge is a nicer system, but that comes at a much higher price.

p.s. just to clarify, i don't own either system, i free-hand sharpen on stones, two of which are 2"x8" diamond lansky stones.

Good point again! Well, the Contego and Adamas are both way under my price point. And since I've never owned a Benchmade knife, that kind of makes me want one of those two even more.

both look like fantastic knives, but i would personally go with the 810 contego because of the CPM-M4 blade steel (even though i do like D2). the only thing is CPM-M4 isn't a stainless steel, but the 810 has a clear or black coated blade and M4 isn't as prone to rust as a basic carbon steel. D2 isn't a full stainless, but it's pretty good in general and it's much better than M4 in the corrosion resistance department.

If you don't have a military yet that's my favorite large knife, you could keep an eye out for a sprint on the exchange .

The wicked edge is awesome too, far different from the sharpmaker.

Thanks for all the infor Jim, I really appreciate it! I think if I go the benchmade route, I want the Adamas. It just looks like you could run over it with a tank, and it would still work!!

Emerson super commander/ super roadhouse/ super horseman. I think you would enjoy one of these.

yeah, the adamas does look like it's a tank.

maybe we can get someone in here to post a pic of the spyderco tuff next to the benchmade 275 adamas?
