357 mag

Joe,

Not to pick nits, but that 686 has a 2.5" barrel.

What barrel lengths and options are on the two Model 19's ?

Yer not, I was just typin' lazy... :D However, of all of my wheelguns, it's a used 686 w/4" bbl that someone did a right nice trigger job on that everybody wants to shoot when I break 'em out! And that little 2 1/2"er shoots almost as nice, but with a little more twist than I care for when shootin' long streams, at least with .357 loads...

As to the 19's, I don't know much more than they are both, IIRC, 4" bbls with the original wood grips... as to options, I just don't know much about them except that at least one shoots really well, and the other one is still in the box, so I don't think I've shot it...

However, for personal carry, if I don't carry my Glock 27, I carry a S&W mod 40 (?) in .38... the one with the hidden hammer and grip safety?

Thanks for the input guys!

What do you guys think about a Model:605 Taurus Revolver
Or charter arms

Taurus seems to have variable quality control, I've seen complaints here & there. In my own case, I have not tried the Model you mention, but have fired a couple of their autos, one of their .45 ACP revolvers, and a couple of their Tracker revolvers. All worked just fine, no idea on longevity.

I've also heard of dissatisfaction with their service department, but I've never used it myself.

The older Charter Arms revolvers weren't quite up to the Smiths, but serviceable. I have no experience with the current ones.

My latest revolver purchased was a Smith & Wesson Model 327 TRR8---it's an eight shot .357 Magnum with a M1917 Picatinny-style rail mount for lights and et cetera underneath the barrel; designed for use by the shield-wielders on the New York Police Department's SWAT teams, if Combat Handgus was correct. It's a hellacious revolver with that SureFire X300 snapped to it.

If that kind of money is out of the question (and it usually is, for first-time buyers---until you catch the bug), why not a Ruger? The stainless SP series is a great buy.

Since we seem to have a cluster of revolver guys revolving around this thread I'd like to ask:

What is the difference between a Ruger Service Six vs. Ruger Security Six?

IIRC the security has adjustable sights and the other doesnt??

my bro-in-law is selling me his dads S&W 28 3" or maybe 3.5" pinned bbl revolver, i am swapping a guitar for it, it looks to have either never been fired or not fired much, i always liked those old revolvers, its still in the old blue box too.

Well I used to have the service six and it indeed had fixed sights. Thx for the info.

Old Smiths are nice to have. :)
