36 grit +full speed=

That is painful to look at. So far I've only ground into my fingernails. It's only a matter of time I'm sure.

Hope you heal quickly.

Charles

I gound off my forefinger nail first time i start to grind. I had luck the belt didn't reach the meat. But my nail was kind a soft after.:o
Than I bought gloves. I was too stupid to start gringind without them. It must have been hell of a pressure to apply to grind off the gloves.
Heal quick, work slow. :)

OUCH did it bleed allot or was the skin cotorized? I guess you will probably need new gloves.

Even if you don't attemt to "recontour" your digits, 36 grit + high speed equals sandstorm in your garage and black boogers.

I second the motion for lots of Neosporin.

I just scraped the hide off the back of my knuckle doing something else that wasn't very bright and kept the wound covered in Neosporin and non-adhesive gauze for a few days. When I had to work I got some Bandaids made with the Tough Strips and lots of Neosporin. It took about two weeks to heal. Of course now i will have to keep filing down the scar for a while to keep it from getting out of hand. Do that with a callous remover though - not your belts!

D!@#$@#$%#$%^$%^&@#, Butch. Makes my hand hurt to look at the pictures...

Ouch....Did that to the back of my hand once several years back. Christmas Eve. Sucked.. I held the skin together while my daughter mixed some 5 min epoxy then waited for it to dry. Went back and finished the knife. It hurt like hell 3 days later when the epoxy snagged on my pocket and ripped off as I was getting some change. I try not to hurry as much now....It Ain't Worth It.

Heal Quick!

 Brings a whole new meaning to "saw bones" :) Dude...you saw your bones man! That's just sick! :barf: I registered about a 8.7 on the sphincter scale when I saw that.

well the good news is i got my wood saw mostly together and the finger doesnt hurt less i bang it on something

so far as did it bleed the picture was taken less then a sec after i took the persure off it (bleed like stuck pig)
but seems under control

i dont use 36 grit on steel much and should have stuck with 60 (thats my "hogger")
i dont know how you guse that are runnign big motors and super speeds
im just running a 1.5 Hp direct drive VFD at 100 for hoggin 1750 rpm
you 3 HP 3500 guys are nutz

I dunno man, i'd say you did just fine considering.....imagine what that pic of your hand would look like if those gloves had got sucked between the contact wheel and pulled your hand through....i used to use gloves but had one quite literally torn off my hand and watched as my KMG sucked it around the serrated contact wheel once, then jammed it between the arm and belt and ate it at full speed without even the belt slowing down

hmm...I've often wondered if I should make myself a pair of very fine chain maille glove once I get a grinder, seems like it'd protect better than the leather and it would breath a lot more? any reason this wouldn't be practical?

but anyways, that looks like it hurt butch! I hope you get better soon...

YEE-OW-I'll bet you invented a whole new set of swear words for that-don't forget to soak it in lemon juice and wash it in pond water:D -heal up soon, bro, and yeah Neosporin the hell out of it,and next time try a hollow grind on those knuckles:eek:

 I never run 36 belts at anything but top speed (2 hp 3600rpm) You don't HAVE to lean on it when you're doing that unless the belt is shot and then you're just making heat. It's the pushing and the leaning that'll hurt ya when you slip, I think. ;)

Heal up and get back to your great knives (and micarta)
and remember:
"Pain is weakness leaving the body" (old Marine Corp. slogan).

the silver linning is i will have bluejeans and black and green mycarta blocks and scale sets up for grabs cause on my "off " day today i got the new saw so the 2 monster blocks can be cut up in the morning
