.38 Special!!

Maybe in the future , Bill will make some with a rooster comb secondary blade!

That antique yellow pick bone really looks great. Starting to wish I'd reserved one of these.

Anyone heard anything about the blade configuration on the KSF half whitt yet?

Speaking of rooster comb blades, that would be a sweet main blade!

Thanks Jamie, can't wait to hold one . I think Charlies amber ones will be nice too.

Charlies Antique Amber are previewed on the GEC home page. They are looking real sweet, this my favorite so far!!

A few weeks ago, I managed to preorder a Cranberry Jigged Bone Orchard Gem. Today, I stumbled across a few farmer jacks at a dealer. Needless to say I ordered an African Blackwood moments later. I can't wait for them to arrive!

Does anyone having either of the micarta covers (OD green or maroon) care to comment on how you like them? I'm having trouble deciding whether to go micarta (and I don't own any micarta-handled knives) or with one of the bone covers. How does the micarta feel in the hand? Slippery? I know some people like to sand it or otherwise scuff it up for grippiness. And how is F&F with the micarta versions of the #38? Nice smooth transition from micarta to bolster or can you feel the bolster's edge under your finger?

Thanks in advance for any input!

I do not have a Micarta 38 but i can say that Micarta is an excellent handle material and not particularly slippery when wet. Sanding it is for a hunting knife that has no guard or finger notch and gets wet and greasy.

I have two micarta's although not in the #38 pattern, not slippery, kinda satiny smooth. I've never sanded them, but found soapy water willreally cause the fabic to show. Wears pretty well in the pocket too

I too am wondering about the blade combo on KSF's half whitt. Maybe Derrick will chime in?

Well, I have been busy pulling out my hair on some logistical nightmares, or I would have put up a drawing. Now I see there are actual pics of the knife, so that is even better.

No worries Derrick. I saw it today. Now I just have to pray that there will be at least one in blue camel bone available when I go to purchase it. They look fantastic!

Cripes..... our favorite dealer has Charlie's and Lyle's pick bone versions up..... I was going to wait for the half whittler and then realized that the hawkbill would make a better work knife for picking at stuff and cutting down cardboard.... couldn't decide so I got both. The half whittler may have to wait.

I was thinking of wrapping a wooden dowel with a piece of leather so I can strop it. Anyone ever try that with a hawkbill?

Thanks for the heads-up, draggat! I just picked-up an Orchard Gem and one of Lyle's Farmer Jacks in ebony!

Just scored another Orchard Gem, but this time in Amber Pick Bone. Shockingly, the blackwoods are still available.

You could shape a softwood piece to the shape of the curve and glue down the leather. I may try that myself when mine come.
A dowel could work too.

Best regards
