3HP too Macho for 2x72?

I've been operating my Esteem with a 2hp. There are quite a few times when I wish i had 3hp. I never wished for less hp though.
If the deal fell through perhaps you are being told to get a 3hp motor who's mount and shaft are perfect for your application.
Rod Chappel used to run his big boy with a 7hp motor, and he used all of it!

Never had a problem with my 2hp Bader or 1 1/2 horse Burr King. I only hollow grind though. Plus I'm a weakling

I'm at 3hp and direct drive and it's a beast even with the VFD turned all the way down the tork is amazing. I would not be happy with anything less. But I'm on 220v with a VFD.

Ay caramba! The big motor arrived today. I could swear it's TWICE as heavy as my 2HP. I expected it to weigh a little more, but this is crazy. I'm afraid I'll pop something, carrying it to the grinder.

The label says 92 lbs. The other motor probably goes about 45.

I love this Ebay seller. The motor looks like a good deal, and the packing is wonderful. Foam, particle board, part of a 2x4...excellent.
