3V Field Knives, micarta, G10, colors, main sale, SOLD OUT

I forgot to mention it before, but these are seriously sharp. Have fun but be careful. A lot of folks have not handled knives this sharp before, so take care.

Nathan is not one to mince words, and he's not shitting you about this. Be careful!

3V will corrode. I run a candle along my edge after honing to put a coat of wax on it for storage. I find it keeps the edge from degrading due to humidity. Could care less about the rest of the blade, but when you find the edge you like you wanna keep it. There's nothing to not like about the edges on these stout little bastards.

My friend, nice work! 20 knives sold in one day. That's serious mojo, brother:thumbup:

I'm looking forward to the next top secret project for Blade you'd mentioned. Sounds badass.

Wow. I saw this thread earlier, liked what I saw and resolved to get one later... I won't make out off buying one of your knives again. Congrats on a great sale!

Edit to add - I see you are in Mooresville. My wife is from Concord and we met when I was living in Huntersville and she was living in Gastonia. Good to see an NC native making cool knives!

I bought a 6" fighter from Nathan last week, it made me a believer , not only are they sharp but the geometry of the blade really makes it's an amazing cutter/ slicer , i started with food prep and was very Impressed , it sliced so accurately and with ease , the knife is Also extremely light for such a strong knife so your hand doesn't get tired , I then went to batoning, and feather sticking it also did this with ease, after a good workout on wood I went back to some more food prep for dinner, tomatoes, potatoes , onions ect... It still sliced as it did out of the box , I ended by shaving hair off my arm , it still was shaving sharp and the blade didn't stain :o , good job Nathan , I really do love it .
Needless to say I snagged a 4" this week in my favorite handle material, black micrata.

Great looking knife and the videos show really how impressive they are. Wish I checked the forums yesterday to pick one up. I know you mentioned a third party might be selling these. How much were these going for btw?

Invoice received and paid good buddy! The address I emailed you and my confirmed PayPal address both work, and will end up with the package at the same place regardless. No worries there.

Thanks again for the opportunity to receive such a badass blade, I can't wait!

Here is my Shiv from last week.
Slice rope with ease, the blade in narrow and easy to use in hand,
The thumb press is perfect, and the scales are grippy.
I like it so much, I also got a camp knife in black micarta!
Enjoy

Damn, not a dollar short, but a day late! :grumpy:

Can I get on a list for the next round in 3V?

I find it curious that the 6" fighter is 0.165" thick, while the shorter field knife is thicker. Not complaining, but can you explain the thinking/design choice involved in that? One might think that a field/utility knife would be thinner for optimal slicing.

Well, the short answer is that I designed the fighter and Lorien designed the Field Knife. He is an experienced knife designer and knows to make a design conform to available stock thickness, and I'm a machinist and I'll make it any thickness I please...

They both come from the same sheets of 3V, which comes out of the rolling mill at about .210. The material is commercially available with the mill scale removed and ground down to the nominal 3/16", however I'm buying full sheets from the mill and processing it myself here where I can make it any thickness I want. Most folks can't do that, so it's best practice when developing a pattern to stick to standard sizes, I just don't. If I weren't making these myself here I wouldn't be able to do that.

The difference of .023" isn't very great, but when I'm tweaking in a design there are considerations such as the section at the tip, the length of the blade, the size and location of the swedge, the amount of skeletonizing in the tang, the grind height and the volume of the scales material that all effect balance and get tweaked and massaged to move that balance point where I want it, and one of the tweaks I made was narrowing the stock. *shrug*

Lorien designed the Field Knife. I tweaked the blade shape, designed the scales and worked out the skeletonized tang, but it's his baby. I found with the shorter blade and the relatively long handle the knife was naturally tip light and there was no pressure to take weight from the blade so I left it where he put it.

Anyway to get on a notification list on your next batch for these? Thanks.

I'm sorry but we don't currently keep a list. But, I always announce my sales ahead of time in my signature. Also Jo has just started a facebook page with announcements that can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/CarothersKnives

If any of you are going to the Blade Show, please come by my table, 6D, I am working on a batch of Field Knives now and should have 11 of them there, a couple Shivs, some 6" fighters, and this ridiculous integral dagger, work in process picture:

Thanks everybody for your interest and support, it makes all the difference.

Oh man, that dagger is awesome. I can't see ever carrying it but it's something that I'd like to display on a desk, if I had one.

Nathan, do you think there might be a run of 6" fighters on the horizon?

I will have a few at Blade and I have material here for another run but it might be a while before I can make them. I appreciate your interest.

So mad at myself that I missed this one. This is exactly the knife I am in the process of looking for. It would make a great addition to my Combat Shiv!

This sale did go pretty fast. I was surprised to see 20 go in an afternoon. For those that missed out, Fort Henry Custom Knives http://forthenrycustomknives.com has picked up a few of these and will be helping me distribute them. You can look for them there in about a week.
