3V vs. INFI

I have a Fehrman but have yet to use it... just from handling it, seems like the fit & finish are nice. However, I have always wondered why there aren't many people talking about that company. I'm sure part of the reason is that they don't have a subforum but I hardly ever see their name come up, at least when compared to a lot of other brands.

Infi and 3V are both great chopping steels if HT'd properly.

I like 3V in the low/mid 60's for small knives. It really excels in small blades. It's a bear to sharpen from dull but a quick strop after use will keep the edge forever. Infi isn't made paper thin and in high RC so it's not fair to do a comparison.

i don't think I read much about blade geometer in this thread and it is just as important as HT.I find Infi always comes too thick for my liking. if you read up on how to get performance from steels in the customs forum here on BF, you build with the steel in mind. 3V has alot of toughness so you can build a knife thinner than you would if you used W2. why over build a knife when cutting performance suffers? An example are my GW's which are too thick to be useful to me. a cheap 440c buck 110 is better for EDC than my GW's as far as cutting performance is concerned. I don't need to pry things I just need to cut well. the thin blade zings through what needs to be cut, my GW is more of a wedging action than cutting. 'm not bad mouthing Infi I have lots of it but it has it's place. Small EDC isn't it.

EDIT: I use paper wheel to sharpen and all my blades are air bleeding sharp no matter the geometry.

Well I am new to Busse also, but I have had a Badger Attack Tac for about a year, and find no faults with it, and I have many knives in different steels...But I have to say Busse is one tuff blade, and I think that Jerry puts much thought into his blades, and there are alot of people here on the Busse forums that have a ton of blades...an I hear all the same about the steel and never hear of someone getting a Busse that they are unhappy with...So that says alot in itself....It may cost a bit more than other knives, but then again you are buying a knife that sits at the top of the hill, and it is there for many reasons.....This is just my thought.....

They don't quite have as big of a following as some other companies, but Eric Fehrman is one of the best people in this industry. He has been nothing short of amazing in all of my dealings with him.

They don't do custom knives and have an offering on the smaller side, and also Fehrman is a tool and die manufacture by trade (which explains why his materials, particularly his 3V steel, are as good as it gets). This might explain why his knives don't have as large of a following... yet.

Also, the knives are fairly expensive. A very quality product though.

Unfortunately I cannot compare how INFI would have fared as I did attack the tree again with INFI and other assorted metals but I struck from behind and at night, so it could not throw up its metal defenses.

I don't care who you are. That was funny right there (Larry the cable guy).

This isn't a thread about Fehrman knives. It is a thread about 3V vs. INFI.

So, back on track. If 3V were better than INFI, we would use it. It is not. Nontheless, it is still a very good steel as are many others that are being used by today's manufacturers.

NO other steel comes close to the overall performance of INFI. . . NO other . . . . PERIOD!

Feel free to ask any knife manufacturer to put their reputation on the line by attempting to duplicate our tests in a "LIVE" demo at next year's BLADE Show.

In the meantime. . .

Let's Drink!!!!!
