3VMandu? . . . Swamp Rat Has It Coming Your Way This Friday, May 26, 2023, At 9:00 PM Eastern!

Oh shit it looks gorgeous!! How does it feel in the hand?
It feels stout. The ergos are perfect. The Ratmandu has always been a perfect fit for my hand. This 3V version is identical to the old SR101 Ratmandu. They can share a sheath no problem. I know the Infidu had slight differences in handle thickness. The FHFG Infimandu had a slightly different blade shape and thicker handle scales. In my opinion this one is just like the SR101 Ratmandu with an upgrade in steel.

Edit - The machining on this 3V Mandu scales is different from the SR101 RMD.

I am really glad I got one.

They are slightly different than all of the RMD's I have until this one.

Blade is really close to the 2020 and later models but the scales are different enough that I will make the sheaths specific to the 3V RMD's

I think it is an RMD in 3V. and that makes it exciting enough for me! To me, the RMD is a classic knife across any steel and across all makers and designs out there. It is a well-designed, comfortable, practical knife that works. It is a very beefy all arounder that is not too heavy for the belt, and it is bomb proof. I am excited to see what the steel does as far as hard use, sharpening, edge retention and edge stability (I just cut stuff and bash wood). I have been really impressed with what Busse did with Magnacut in the Galley Rat, and so I was excited to get their 3V. 3V has been one of my favorite steels and I have great experience with it from a variety of higher end production shops. I am a big fan of INFI as well because based on my use, it is everything Busse claims it to be. And I have supreme confidence in using all their knives because of my experience first (and for the warranty and customer service second). The handles don't move around when you bash them and the edges are stable and you can sharpen them, and if they get dinged up, they last through and perform the function of a knife until the end of any expedition (or wood processing bonanza) I have ever been on.

The RMD is a really good knife, and this version has great fit and finish, and they are comfortable. Slight handle bias on the balance for that "float in hand feel". And even though I prefer a slight blade heavy bias, these are really nice in hand, as are all the RMDs, and I have carried them often. The ridges on the scales feel deeper/more aggressive and in no way too much so, and there is no overlap or exposure of metal or micarta above/below the scales. the tubes are all symmetrical and of the same depth and the precision/uniformity of this looks to be really dialed in on these.

I have to admit, I have owned double digit RMDs and given one as a gift. And with these two, I now have close to ten all over again! It is the kind of practical user friendly knife I like having around. And they look cool, too.
