Been super busy and have not had much time to make it to the forums lately. Does anyone know the cutoff date for the 5.4 bushcraft preorder? I missed the 12 and do not want to miss the 4.5.

You know they have monthly news letters and a production schedule on their website, right? :D

Nothing has been mentioned so far. The only cut off known right now is for the 6 and that is May 13. Since the cut off for the 12 was 4/22 maybe we could guess if there is a cut off coming for the 4.5 it would be mid to late June.

How optimistic are you about getting a 12 on a future Monday?

It says bushcraft cuttoff is comming up soon. I hope not too soon.. I currently have FOUR survive knives preorders iv bought and waiting on.. and want to get the bushcraft...

The question I have... I have the 7/7, 10, and 12... would the eight be too redundant for me?

I would say the 4.5 is a must well before an 8 with that inventory. also I can't imagine the cutoff being sooner than the beginning of June but I am not s!k so I don't know for sure.

Here is my current SK knives, and ones ordered..

Necker II (currently own)
gso 4.0 3v (currently own)
gso 5.0 3v (currently own)
gso 5.1 3v (2016 currently own)
GSO 4.7 20cv (2016 awaiting shipment)
gso 6 3v (awaiting shipment)
gso 7/7 3v (awaiting shipment)
gso 10 3v (currently own)
gso 12 3v (awaiting shipment)

so the list above I have commited to and already ordered or have..

My plan is to also order the 4.5 bushcrafter... and perhaps forgo the gso 8.. sound right? would the 8 really be necessary for the list above?

I just ordered a 4.5. Not gonna miss this one. It will be a trout filleting laser beam.

I collect them to use.. a user..

Well, the 8 is like a compact 10, which you have. It's not too far from a 7/7, which you have. I suppose if you felt like your 10 was a tad too much, and what you really need was something similar, but smaller, and your 7/7 was a little too small/short/thin or something, perhaps for chopping etc, then the 8 is probably right on the sweet spot.

If you want to collect them all, you gotta get one.

I could see this one becoming a kitchen favorite and my most used S!K. I did depart from my usual blaze handlenand went with OD Green linen.

Just pulled the trigger on this one too.
My Mora HD has served me very well, but it's about time a Survive! took its place...

Just curious - why might someone go for this over the GSO 4.7 or the 4.1? I'm wondering what purpose you have in mind that the others might not do too well. (Not simply looking to round out your collection... which is a great reason in and of itself).

If you could only pick one blade from the S!K lineup in the 4 1/2" range (+/-) - why the bushcrafter?

Thanks,
TR

The 4.5 is the thinnest Survive blade that I know of and it should be the best slicer for that reason.

I want this one for it's thinner carving oriented blade. I'm hoping it will excel at tasks like that without the thickness that people prefer for things like batoning.

This I hope will be a less heavy duty design and more of a finesse design. I don't need all my knives to be made for batoning. Additionally I will see how the new HT resists corrosion. Ellie is curious how the steel holds up here. I'm in the Pacific Northwest and at this moment could throw a stone into the ocean.

I prefer to use a longer than 4" as well as thicker blade for heavy use and batoning.

I think this thinner knife will be better for detailed wood working maybe similar to a scandi ground blade and also better for food prep. Even my dainty and razor sharp 3.5 would act like a wedge when cutting things like apples or onions. Also, if someone plans to carry an ax or saw this knife would be lighter and excel at fine cutting and "knife stuff" while the bigger tool fills it's own role.

With the advent of this knife, I may have to revise my ultimate 3 GSO tools to the following:

1- GSO 8: after much over analyzing and anguish, I have concluded that both GSO 12 & 10 would be too excessive and a couple of indulgent luxury items since both my GB Wildlife hatchet and my recently acquired Junglas will handle everything in tandem as far as whacking and chopping goes! Hence a GSO 8 will complete the trifecta in the proverbial chopping toolbox!

2- GSO 4.5 BC: I thought that the grind was going to be a saber grind but if Survive! goes for a Scandi grind with the thinner geometry, just sign me up for this model and I may then let go of everything else that I have so far in the GSO mid range versions (5.1 and soon to add a 4.7)

3- GSO 2.7: a perfect size EDC for where I live in Cali. My version of the EDC means when I'm walking the dog at nights or walking with her off the beaten path and on the trails (nice complement to my trusty Para-Military 2)

I'm trying not to go all nutty and end up with like 7-8 different version GSOs because I live in a very urban setting. However if I lived in a more rural and isolated setting, I'd say: I'll have two of each please! :D

Guy scrapped his scandi grind project, I don't think I ever heard exactly why.
I have a folder with a scandi grind and at 1/8" the blade thickness is borderline excessive.
I'm glad that the Survive bushcrafter is going to be ground thinner.
