4 day Wilderness Trek (lots of pics)

Looking back at the woods we camped in from the floor of the bog.

That night we could hear things in the woods around us and when we went to bed the coyotes went off all the way around us CLOSE. Then all night they spent running deer (or some poor animals) up and down the valley yipping.

We guessed they came over the hill but were afraid to pass our camp till we went to bed. It was cool. We had some really blood curdling owl shrieking around us the night before on the Lions Head.

Trust me. We've been pals for 30 years this month and I've tried:rolleyes: he also finds it near impossible to get on the trail before 11 or 12 and is ready to make camp by about 3:30.

Shucks, if I was humping a pack that big I'd probably want to sleep in late and stop early myself! :D

Finally we were done. But we got out early enough to take some pics from the road.

This is Chimney Rocks. And they rock. They are at the end of the 24 mile North Fork Mt Trail.

We three plus my pal Kate hiked the whole trail in 04. It's super cool to set up on top of the big chimneys at the end and look off.

The hard thing about that trail is there is NO WATER. You have to carry at least 2 days worth(there is a dead end road on the mountain in the middle you can stash extra water at)

Here is a pic from that trip (04)of the big chimney on the end. I call it "the old man"

Then here a little down the road is Seneca Rocks.

I'm ashamed to admit that despite there being an easy trail to the viewing platform on the left of the rocks(can you spot it?) I have never climbed up there. It's a favorite of rock climbers.

And to put it in context here is a picture of Ms HD, sitting at "The Point" which is the junction of Roaring Creek and Long Run Canyon up on the same plateau as Dolly Sods(but at Roaring Plains) on the unofficial Canyon Rim Trail, and you can see Seneca Rocks far below in the valley.

Those must be some tough ladies you brought along. I'm hesitant to invite the girl, I fear excessively frequent stops and constant complaints about sore feet and a heavy pack.

Beautiful land that is, it must be exhilarating being up on the peak overlooking the whole country side. The prairies aint got squat on that.

NICE shot of Seneca Rocks HD. We've made a LOT of weekend climbing trips there over the years. One of my favorite East Coast areas.

Man, that looks like a fun trip. I've got to get on the ball and gather some ultralight gear so I can do some of these. I've got a couple of buddies around here bugging me to get started.

HD, that was a great trip, thanks for sharing all the pics. I was enjoying the colors and scenics, some of the pics reminded me of places I've been and brought back some good memories. It looks like you folks had perfect Fall weather for your trek.

Looks like an excellent trip and a nice area. I really like the fall foliage pics too.
