4 Max Scout

It finally came! Man this thing is big lol. So, I remember members comparing the action to the AD-10. I was hoping that it would replace the AD-10 for me since I had to send mine back. It definitely does replace it in the "huge stocky fat blade" sense. And I will admit, the action really is nice for such a big knife. But, it ain't no AD-10. Not regretting my purchase or anything. I did get it at the cheapest price I think you can find it right now. It's pretty awesome. OH, one con (or flaw?): mine came with a blunt tip. I'm not sure if this is how CS grinds them or if mine just came like that. AD-10 is the same blade stock (I think) but it had a sharp tip. Here's a few pics:

And, my first use with it was attempting to just cut open the plastic wrapper of a paper towel roll. Obviously not a knife meant for precision work :D:

Demko said the AD-10 is equivalent to an XL Ultimate Hunter and the 4 Max Scout is approx an XL AD-10 for a size comparison.

Great score! I'm sure the tip is a very minor, factory mis-grind. A slight touch-up with a ceramic-stone will clean-it-up. The Scout is definitely not an AD-10 in anybody's world, or lexicon. If anybody; ever got-passed your Hellcat, the Scout will serve as an excellent CQB augment. Can you say: diced zombie? Now time for a lanyard for this biggun! Plus, pics of your final creation. ;) I took the liberty of ordering a Spartan today, for the princely sum of: $60.00 dollars.
Thanks. I'll finally get to try out my new Spyderco Sharpmaker. Hmm... not sure if I would carry the Scout for CQB purposes... Personally, I'd pick my Recon 1 (or even my Manix 2 XL) over the Scout for that. Got many reasons which I won't discuss here (or I'll get kicked to the Practical/Tactical forum) but first one that comes to mind is that the handle of the Scout doesn't fit my small/mid-size hands optimally (as you can see in one of the pics I posted) and I think that's important for knife combat.

Yes. I remember this video. I love the AD-10 so much, I wish Demko/CS would make a more tactical version. Specifically, I'd be all over a knife with a: 3.6"-4.0" blade, 3.5-4mm stock, blade width similar to Recon 1 (not so fat) and the same handle as the AD-10, maybe a little thinner scales. That handle man...just so comfortable... Maybe I should post this on the CS forum. Think Lynn will listen? Nah, it's not ridiculous enough of a design lol.

Part of why the AD's are better received and more broadly accepted than many of LT's older designs is that they are more general purpose and less tactical looking .

I know :(. Just wishful thinking. Wouldn't it be wonderful to get a blend of AD's quality and design and LT's tactical love? Their partnership is relatively new, right? Maybe they'll head in that direction at some point in the future...

Imgur:
on the image you want to post; look-at the right-hand bottom of the total image box. You'll see: sizes. I always select "Huge Thumbnail" for all posts, as it doesn't overpower that much.

That sounds like a good tip! But I looked and didn’t see that. I checked on a PC too. By “total image box” do you mean you have you already selected a picture to get the share links? Are you on a phone or computer?

Another tip I use on my phone : once you paste the Imgur link into the BF img box, you can insert an “L” right before the “.jpg” to get a decently large format that’s not huge. “M” works for Medium, etc.

Yes. When you've selected a pic, that you want to post, the sizes will be in the lower right-hand corner. You can't miss it. I'm on a PC.

I'm on a PC and I don't see any options for sizing either. I use my phone sometimes but the Imgur app/mobile site has even less options. I'm just gonna do a test for "inserting the L or M option". I'm really trying to stop doing these "full-spread" photos on you guys' monitors/screens lol.
Nope, doesn't work. There's no ".jpeg" extension when I paste the URL into the BF img box. For Imgur, I usually click the three dots, then Get Share Links, then copy the link for BBCode (Forums) and just paste it directly into the post. When I try using the BF img box and pasting the URL, it doesn't display the image at all for me. I found that the BBCode link is the only thing that works for me. Anyway, sorry if it's huge, here's my promised first try snake knot lanyard/fob on my Scout. I'm not crazy about the color kit I got from Amazon. But it was the only option that I had that I liked most the colors. I want the red and black for sure. Zephyr, you know if I order directly from Paracord Planet if I can select specific colors?

Umm...you did post it on the CS forumo_O

Oops! In that case, Mr. Lynn Thompson, please give us more tactical AD offerings!! You've done plenty of EDC/general population models that have obviously sold well, let's get Andrew in on some of your old school tactical designs! You know people will buy them!!

Yes brother, you can. They have both solids, and mixes. Reflective, and non-reflective cord examples. The mil-spec is mostly all solid muted colors. Here's a small sampling of their wares. The red/black on my Voyager is the "Reaper" branded cordage. One of my personal favs is the "Titanium" cord on the Scout.

That "titanium" cord is nice. I'm a fan of neutral color blends (black, white, greys), but I have a spot for black & red in particular. BTW, post pics of that Spartan when you get it. I may be interested for my next CS knife... Also been eyeing the Air Lite, but I might have enough "small" knives already... gotta save up for my gun budget too. You guys are all enablers. I don't need any more knives :(.

I don’t want to take this thread too far off the rails, but the .jpg is there. You may have to paste and then click the picture to see the link text. Anyway, here’s an example using your pic:

Enjoy the beastly knives. :)

Thanks for trying to help. I thought I had clarified. I meant to say the BBCode option is the only option that shows a file extension (.jpg) for me but it does not work when I insert an M or L in front of the extension. At least when I preview the post. I will try just posting and seeing if you guys see it. If I follow the instruction exactly, I'm changing the extension to ".Ljpg" instead of ".jpg". Here's my test:

Looks like it doesn't work, so maybe I'm doing it wrong. Anyway, to get this thread back on the rails, I carried my 4Max Scout for the first time today for a quick trip to the store. Had it in the front pocket of some light normal cut length cargo shorts (not baggy or oversized by any means). Definitely was NOT ridiculous as I expected. Didn't feel bulky, heavy, and I still had space in my pocket. Maybe it's the relative slimness of the knife? It's definitely "EDC-able" to me (at least from a carry/comfort perspective). I also broke down some Amazon boxes today with it. The cardboard didn't stand a chance . Neighbors probably looked at me funny though;).

Ah. Bump that L over to the left of the dot, as in xxxxL.jpg. It does seem finicky sometimes on the forum though where it won’t let you paste that way initially.

Test while trying to keep this a 4Max Scout post :D.
xVxY9Qm.Ljpg

So the test didn't work obviously... I put the L in front of the .jpg this time. Oh well I still wanna post this pic, so here's a huge one lol

Also Z Zephyr One/Zero are you a professional photographer or what man? Quit with the flexing already! :p. And btw, I think the long lanyards definitely look nice on your knives. And I started doing them that way until something very alarming (to me) happened the other day. I think it was with my Manix 2, went to flick it open and the lanyard had flipped over to the blade side and the blade got caught in the loop opening of the cord causing a failure to deploy. Big no no in my book. So now I make the loop shorter and test while doing the first knot to make sure it doesn't happen.

hey I just got a Vexer myself yesterday! I must have got an early run though since my box still said Lynchpin on it! LOL It feels like a cross between the Spyderco Amalgam and Native Chief.

and yes, the 4max scout is surprisingly easy to carry! its huge, but really doesnt feel that way in the pocket. its magic, i tell ya!
