4-Max?! USA Made, CPM-20CV, Cold Steel?! This can't be happening!

It's happening, and now all the naysayers and haters should forever hold their peace. Unfortunately(And fortunately for CS) some of the same haters will have a 4-max or other 2015 folder in their pocket this coming year.

CPM20CV?!? Sure I'm in. Although, I would be very dissapointed if cold steel makes the edge geometry insanely thick. It just beats the purpose of having a high wear resistant steel.

The meat bicycle or the 4-MAX? :D

The Meat Bicycle of course!!! That comes out in force for the summer 2015. I have to say that CS produces some of the best bang for the buck knives out there.

And now that they are using premium steels, I will be buying some more of the production knives. The 4Maxx as a custom knife is amazing and worth the purchase as a custom at 600-1000.

Either way this does make the knife available to many more people which is great as its a fantastic user!!!

Let's all hope the specs are kept to Demkos design in all respects and there should be no issues. I expect nothing but all Ti, high end materials and great performance out of the new CS 4Maxx

You can't really compare the 4-Max with the regular knives in the Cold Steel range. It is in the class of knives like the Hinderer which do sell for that sort of price.

It is worth the price to someone who would buy a Hinderer, in fact you could probably buy two for the price most people have to pay for Rick Hinderer's work. In that class Cold Steel are offering excellent value for money, in the same way that they offer excellent value for money in their lower ranges of knives.

And now I'm looking at a XHP G10 Espada XL and wondering if my knife budget will stretch to one.

Love the specs on the 4-Max. Hoping for great quality and a street price of around $300.

So recently while browsing the forums, I had the Cold Steel 2015 lineup brought to my attention. I checked it out a couple days ago, and was interested in their updated models that use CTS-XHP (Recon 1, AK-47, etc). But today when I checked, I came across this.

http://www.coldsteel.com/Product/62RM/4-Max.aspx

The Cold Steel 4-Max. This knife immediately grabbed my attention, for four reasons.

1: CPM-20CV, I mean ya CTS-XHP is great but holy shit! CPM-20CV if I remember correctly is similar to M390 and CTS-204P, which have some of the best edge retention and stain resistance of any current knife steels. That excites me.

2: Titanium liners, not much needs to be said. It's Titanium, it's awesome.

3: USA Made. Yep that's right, in bold letters it says "100% made in the USA". I don't keep up with Cold Steel to much, but I believe this is their first 100% USA made knife. Which is AWESOME!

4: $600 MSRP, ya this doesn't make me happy. This is the anti-awesome :(

In closing, I think this knife is a great contender with some of the high end production knives (assuming it's not a limited edition). However, with that MSRP and the fact that Cold Steel doesn't have a lifetime warranty it just doesn't quite stack up to some other high end production knives. Think CRK, Strider, Hinderer, Microtech, etc. If this knife came with a lifetime warranty, had good F&F, and a street price of ~$400 I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

So what do you guys think?
Your Point 4 is of course an evitable result of Points 1 and 2. Your Point 3 however is highly subjective, there is nothing automatically AWESOME about a knife made in the US ,the laughable quality control of Emerson knives proves that. Get used to Point 4, the steel snob nerds have had their way with Cold Steel. [ LT you should have taken the Viking Axe to those little weenies]

It seems cold steel is making it but that does not concern me for F&F because i have yet to have issues with any knife of theirs I own despite beating then beyond reason.

I was under the impression that Cold Steel does not do any of their own manufacturing. So I don't know what company will build this USA-made knife.

Could be absolutely the case!! I had thought they produced their own products but apparently I was wrong with regard to USA made items.

Perhaps this is something to be put together by nichols similar to some of the midtech runs done by custom makers. Would make sense if its something that "bridges the gap" between cold steel and demko customs.

They have them backordered on a certain website for 325.50.Not bad price for a beast.

I didn't mean that anything made in the USA was automatically awesome. What I meant was it's awesome that Cold Steel is making a change from its Taiwanese manufacturing. I'm fully aware that there are plenty of sub-par knives that are made in the USA. But generally speaking, it is a good thing.
