$400 decision is killing me~=~

And?

If I was going to get a Benchmade to beat the hell out of it'd probably be a Contego (perhaps the M390 exclusive?) or maybe the Vicar. Never held a Vicar, but it seems to be pretty B.A. I also like the Adamas, but hard for me to recommend since it's a load to carry, but it can handle some abuse too.

I just read that CRK disallows wrist flicking, or something like that.

Edit: even though I'm annoyed with the dual-action issues on my Serum, I still love Benchmade. The Stryker that was posted in this thread looks freaking awesome, as well as durable.

The Umnumzaan can be nice to flick but not the Sebenza. The action is fun, I learned to like it a lot more than flicking, but it is what it is.

You might like a flipper with pivot bearings design. I've heard good things about the Southard Avo and Tolk.

I still think you should get a Sebenza 21...
The 21 does look awesome. I do like my Benchmade flipper, but it just needs a new clip, so I haven't messed with it in ages.

If you want a beefy lefty knife, try Southpaw Knives. Ira will work with you on your budget and he has a lot to choose from.

I would think it can handle it fine, and I've heard that before but don't know the real reason why. I mean the very first thing you do when you put the knife back together is wrist flick it to set everything, and this is even demonstrated on video in his shop.

Hard to find something more rock solid for the ~$400 price than a Large Sebenza 21.

That being said, I prefer Spyderco holes or flippers for EDC knives as they are easier to deploy.

Have you looked at the SPyderco Slysz Bowie? Titanium Frame Lock and every bit as good as my 21.

I have a 761 BM and it isnt even close to the quality of the 21 or the Bowie for what its worth.

Ultimately, I'd rather daily carry my Spyderco Paramilitary 2 over the 761.

My vote goes to a Sebenza or other Chris Reeve knife too! I have a lefty one and I really like it. I can flick it open with both hands too. (Not dual thumbstuds).

I humbly recommend you go with a nice fixed blade. I honestly don't know a whole lot about folders, but I do know a bit about fixed & I carry them daily. The custom makers here on BF are turning out so many amazing small to medium/small fixed EDC blades like this one:

When you can get a Hinderer for the same price as the ZT, why would you ever buy the ZT? Hinderer XM-18 3.5 inch models are readily available for 425 dollars. That's 15 more than a Sebbie and you get a knife that is purpose-built. I say go for the Hinderer.

While I would typically agree with you, OP is a southpaw, and Hinderers are not really lefty friendly.
I say go for the lefty Umnumzaan.

stkh22 nails it in post #25, IMO. The 908 BK-1501 has become my go to work EDC. Got it and a ZT 0770M4 right at the same time, probably carried the Benchmade 10 days for every day I carried the ZT. Much like when I got my Spyderco Gayle Bradley, it's a knife you can almost hear laughing at any abusive task you can think to throw at it. You're getting a lot of CRK suggestions, I'm sure that's a great route to go, too. More $ than I could bring myself to spend on one knife this far, I'm sure I'll get there. I just have hard time seeing myself wailing on it like I do the Stryker. I have a Bad Monkey, and I like it a lot, but it's too pretty to abuse. Had a but of chipping on the edge. I do like 14C28N, but nowhere near as much as I like M4.

Guys, thanks again for all your help.

My buddy works for PDW and helped design an automatic knife that I fell in love with, so I ended up getting it. I'm 99% sure I'll end up getting one of the knives posted in this thread too, that's for sure.

Well, I have been debating a similar choice, and have now decided to wait for a shirogorov. When my imposed limit was around 400$ I will tell you I spent a lot of time researching Reate knives. Horizon D, Torrent, Valkyrie, the Begg kawaiken..... All these knives exhibit characteristics belonging to more expensive pieces. I couldn't give a fig if they came from china, they are very nice. I'm going to wait until I can get a Shirogorov too, specifically a "Custom Division" 95T because these Russian made beauties have what I've been looking for in a well made EDC.
