$400 for a stinkin' folder. Are you nuts?

An urge to liquidate some of my knives and buy a DDR Gunhammer often seizes me.

I'm not interested in getting a Gunhammer, but I have liquidated most of my collection for that purpose. Sebenzas, Mnandis, other Chris Reeve Knives, Striders, customs. Bob Dozier, Bud Nealy.

I don't approve of price-fixing, which is what I see Chris Reeves' pricing policy as being, so I will not buy one of his knives, no matter how desirable.

$400 for a knife? I'm not questioning the people that spend that kind of money but I could get a rifle or a nice Ruger Blackhawk for that kind of money!

I guess my knife buying comfort zone is somewhere south of $400.

Actually I don't use my knives very hard to begin with so a Strider or Sebenza would be a waste for me.

2. you get a pretty good feeling from having a nice knife, gun, multi-tool, flashlight or whatever in your pocket; good feelings aren't so easy to come by these days.

I really like this quote!

Do I really 'need' any of the expensive tools/toys I have? No- I got by and had just as much fun going camping and backpacking with surplus gear, a sleeping bag that wasn't warm, a tent that leaked, a ruger blackhawk, a buck folder and a machete.
But I do work very hard and do really appreciate fine workmanship. It is also a reminder of how very very blessed I am that now I can go out into the woods with bombproof gear, a nice Busse for choping, and nice folder in the pocket and a freedom arms on my side.
It is also a reminder of how temporary things in life are. I may have to sell everything one day just to live and one day- I will be long gone and someone else can use my stuff and enjoy it.

Or on the other hand - $400 for a rifle or a nice Ruger Blackhawk? I'm not questioning the people that spend that kind of money but I could get a nice knife for that kind of money!:D

one more thought on this- most of my friends and coworkers think I am indeed nuts because of the price of some of my knives. Most everyone spends money on something- some of these people spend a lot of money on items that I do not understand- but I do to each his own...

A guy I know has audio/video components in house that he has spent close to $250K on! He is an audiophile, and it is his passion- so good for him- but when I told him my backpack cost $300- it blew his mind- he told me- "you can get a backpack at walmart or dicks for $50 I am sure!"

Another friend picked up one of my knives and asked how much it cost. I told him 'about $250'. He freaked out and put it down like it was way too valuable for mere mortals to even handle. This guy has 4 vintage motorcycles he can't even keep running.

And another group of friends- I really like this one- spend probably $300 or even MORE every single WEEK having drinks after work and going out to a decent dinner 3-5 times a week. Now that is something I could never justify even if I had money to burn!

everyone has stuff they like to spend their money on.

zactly right-
i have a firend who looks at me like im insane for buying a good knife-yet he can buy blow a few times a month and say its kool
