I'm not seeing much chatter about this. Besides being over-priced with a busy blade, is anyone picking one of these up? I did. I know, I know, it was a weak moment but the Native is probably my favorite Spydie...

Anyone down for this?

I wouldn't say it's over priced. Considering that the fluted titanium Native 5 is just over $250.

At any rate, I'm in for one. My only gripe is the huge text on the blade. I wish it was a bit more subtle.

I've had one on preorder. There was the possibility that not all who preordered would get one.

I ordered one today from another vendor that had them in stock. I need to see if I can cancel the preorder.

Have one on order. As a collector, it was a must have. As a lefty, the "busy" blade won't bother me although I do wish they'd do a version with a Damasteel blade minus the writing and, ideally, featuring one of the more "organized" Damasteel patterns and regular G-10 scales (to keep the cost of replacing them down).

Mine should be in tomorrow. I'm hoping the blade graphics look more muted over the Damasteel background.

I like the knife. I can say I love everything, but hate billboard size 40. It is expensive for the knife, which I only like. I certainly would buy, if 40 instead of being on the blade would be on the box.
I totally was and still is heart broken after I find out that Spyderco canceled CF Fluted Native5 with plain blade.

i'm a big native fan-boy,and when i started collecting spyderco's i started with the native's,i just love the different steels they use like on the PM2!lots of versions to try,but i really don't like the big-bold imprinting!if they had only left the damasteel blade plane! i probably would try and order one,but looks to be a collector's piece, who no's,maybe down the road i'll pick one up!!!

That's one of the reasons I jumped on the 40th Anniversary version; other than a place holder at Blade HQ, I can no longer find any info on the cf fluted plain blade. I think it might be a Blade HQ exclusive and maybe harder to get than the 40th version. Anyway, I love the Native, I love good Damascus and I really love milled cf.

Just a bit too expensive for my tastes. I typically just don't use knives that cost more than $250. I have only users and don't collect...so I will probably pass on this one. Looks freakin' fantastic though.

Definitely too expensive for anybody but a diehard collector.
At least, far too expensive for me.

I would have loved to get the fluted CF plain version and was sorry to see that that my preorder for one was cancelled.

Almost half a thousand on W & W's website. Wow.

So about $375 US dollars, which is probably not a bad deal since most US sellers would be charging you $360 US, plus whatever insured shipping to Canada cost. It would seem that, at the moment, the exchange rate really sucks for you guys up north.

FWIW, I'm guessing that one of the factors in the high price of these knives is that all the other steels Spyderco works with come in sheets while Damasteel only comes in bars. I'd bet that means a totally different setup is needed for cutting the blade blanks and I'd bet it's one that's a lot less automated.

EDITED TO ADD: Mine arrived today from NGK...

Just received mine today. It'd sooo lightweight! The blade looks amazing and the textured carbon fiber feels great.

I'm on the fence about whether or not I'm going to carry/use it.

Also, I can't believe The Deacon changed the clip like that. Tip down, left hand carry. Blasphemy! :p

That off-center pivot screw peeking through the hole in the clip just seem totally out of place on a quality piece like this.

Personally, I wish Spyderco had made it without any provision for clip mounting. As things stand, there's no way to center the hole over the pivot, the clip screw holes are precious close to the pivot screw as is and would be right up against it if moved "back" to center the hole. Am sure the G-10 and titanium versions have the same issue.

I would swap for a Spyderco clip without the hole because that doesn't look great. Beautiful knife though.

Maybe I am getting too old, but as pictured, isn't the Deacon's tip down rh carry? When folded, the spine should be against the back of the pocket preventing an accidental in-pocket opening.

Agreed. :)

Lose the anniversary graphic, attach some G-10 scales, drop the price to 200ish, and I'll put one in my pocket. I'm not a collector anymore.
Pretty knife though!
