420hc?

I just picked up a Buck Mantis this weekend. I've actually eye'd the Mantis for over a year, but finally picked one up for a really good price. I'll see how the 420HC holds up. Thus far, it's shaving sharp. I'll try tearing down some cardboard boxes this week and see how it fairs. It's stamped "China" on the blade, so I'm not sure if the HT is the same as the higher priced Buck's with 420HC, but so far, it's quite nice.

A buddy of mine has a kershaw chive in 420HC which he brought to me to sharpen when I got my sharpmaker. I was unable to get it as sharp as any of my other knives (440c s&w baby SWAT, minigrip, Byrd meadowlark). It wouldn't shave arm hair like all the others would.

That would probably be something to do with the angle, not really sure there wyld. I really like the Buck 110 in 420HC, for the pricepoint its a superb knife. Also a really big factor is that edge angle, Buck spent alot of time getting that just right. I now find it a easy to sharpen knife that keeps that edge for a decent amount of time.

For many years, I held off buying a Buck 110 because of its 420HC blade. I reluctantly gave in and now I admit that I was wrong. Somewhere between Buck's heat treat and their Edge 2X, they work magic with 420HC. It definitely holds a decent edge and is a pleasure to resharpen.
