45 acp

I had an HK USP. Nice gun but the mags where rattling a little too much in the mag well for my liking. Also I did not like the trigger at all. 1911s are always a great choice and i wish i had money for a custom... Plenty of very nice used ones around if you have time to look. Another gun in .45 i really love is the SIG 220. Easy to shoot, 100% reliable, mine has a very good trigger as well. i bought it used with a little holster wear for less than 400.

Fun to read through these posts, some more interesting and to the point than others. I'd slide my vote over to a Glock in .45 configuration, when the chips are down, slam a few hopped up 200 grain pills into the mix. My best groups (bar none) were shot with a semi-custom .45 built on a Norinco platform. Go figure.

At first I wanted a high capacity polymer, until I found out that NY state does not allow high capacity magazines (:mad:ya I know:mad:). I decided to go with the S&W M&P 45 and never regretted it. I paid $471.00 and received 2 more mags free from S&W:D.

Just make sure you check your state law on mag capacity.

Check out the fnh line of pistols, 15-16 +1 capacity and a hell of alot less expensive than these others. Different back straps for different sized hands. hell you could buy two with money left over to stock up on ammo.

I snagged one of these after falling madly in love with my five seven. I don't have just a ton of experience with guns but I'm loving the FNP45 just as much as my five seven.

And 15+1 for a .45... Gotta love that!

In my experience, when it has come to accuracy and reliability Ive come back to my series 70 time and again.
Ive been shooting my series 70,gold cup national match, for the last 20 years and have never been disappointed with it in any way, shape or form.
It is as accurate as you are....period !
When the polymer guns were up and coming they did not and still do not, in my oppinion, come close to this unmodified series 70 in accuracy.
Ive been target shooting since I was a kid and have had the fortunate opportunity to put thousands of rounds through Kimber ,Glock, Sig and HK both factory and modified and they all have there ups and downs but I guess the series 70 has just had more ups for me.
I am a range, backcountry, gravelpit shooter that is more focused on total shots at center than volume of rounds fired.
If I had ever exposed this gun to alot of dirt, moisture, muck....well my story probably wouldnt be as happy ever after.

I love the 70 series. I gave my father an old one for Christmas this year and I have had a couple. You are lucky, they are snowflakes...only one I had came close to my Kimber or S&W 1911. As for the plastic guns. The glocks I have owned shot as well as I could...for what its worth.

Here is one of my latest .45 Auto pistols:

It is a Kahr Arms PM45, which weighs less than 20 ounces, holds 5+1 rounds of effective .45 Auto, and is actually pleasant to shoot.

That Kahr looks SWEET! I'd love to try one.

Years ago, I thought .45ACP 1911s were the end-all, be-all. I have a Colt Combat Elite and a Combat Commander. I thought the Beretta 92 was pretty hot, too. Then, I bought a Glock Model 22 and found out about friendly ergonomics. My next purchase was a CZ-75 that also fit like a glove. The 1911's and 92 spent a lot of time sitting in the safe and never felt good in my hands any more.

I tried a Glock in .45, but despite my large hands, it felt awful; too big and blocky. Lately, I've pulled the Colts back out and started appreciating them again. A few aftermarket parts and a little customization has them feeling pretty good.

What a great caliber and what an incredible choice of pistols exists in it!

Stay sharp,

I love the polymer guns too, but this is what got me into reloading, and it's turned into a very rewarding hobby.

I just picked up an old Star PD. Its the original micro 45's and is still a very reliable carry, though not the prettiest 45 in the stable.

Colt's are great!
But I would like to have a glock 21 SF to shot the hell out of... Say they last forever, need little maintenance, almost never malfunction...
