45 acp

Try the HK 45. It is not the USP model.

If I didn't already have my .45 bases covered, I'd snag one of them.

Had a chance to handle 2 this past weekend, a compact, and a full size. Feel good in the hand.

Can't speak to how they shoot, but the friend who has them says like a champ.

Maybe he'll chime in here.

Wow somebody considers me a friend? You need some SERIOUS help:eek:
Seriously though I've fired thousands of rounds through Kimbers, Colts and HK. I only own HK's now. One of the one's I still have is a HK45 V9. It operates just like a 1911 w/o any decock function. All my HK's have shot better than I could even when I was shooting ALOT every week. You won't got wrong with HK IMHO. The most accurate was the USP Tac with a KAC suppressor on it. It shot minute of eyeball at 25 meters ;)

My pitiful "lightbox" barely contains the pistol so no knife in this shot. I've had this Series 80 (go ahead and snicker) for 20 years and the only modification has been the Busse G-10 grips. OK, the horrible damage to the receiver was done when it was dropped in a robbery attempt (that is they were trying to steal it from me.) Unfortunately this baby isn't as manageable for CC as my NAA .380 Guardian (continue snickering) so I usually only carry it when I'm traveling anymore. It takes me about 5 clips to bring it into a paper plate for 5 rounds at 30 yds. since I don't get to practice much but anywhere inside my home an intruder is toast. Get a gun, get familiar with it and for home defense you are covered. Oh, as you can see I finally got the slim G-10 grips on with help from the guys on the 1911 Forum and MidwayUSA. Sweet!

OK, just for kicks, here's an American tale. 20 years ago, myself, a long haired, bearded freaky looking dude on a motorcycle cruises up to the gun dealership across the street from the State Law Enforcement Division to check out the Colt .45's. I find the Series 80 Colt Commander and a few boxes of FMJ ball ammo and lay out my credit card. The salesman, who is a cop or ex-cop just like every other salesman in the place informs me that there is a 4% surcharge for using a credit card BUT he has a 6 month, no interest loan he can set me up with instead. I say OK and I cruise on my scoot down to the river and sip a few cold ones while waiting for the paperwork to clear. 3 hours later I return to the gun shop and leave with the Colt and 100 rounds of ammo strapped on the seat behind me without laying out one penny of my money in payment. I ride down the road thinking, 'God, I love this country!'

my 2 cents, with 29 years of le experience and the simple yet quality things being important, i would go with the glock 45 and have enough left over to buy the busse skinny ash listed on the busse sight and then still have plenty left over for a case or so of 45 ammo, because like it or not. ammo is getting scarce!!! i talked to a remington distributor recently and the raw materials are there, just cannot keep up with demand and no sign of let up for ammo...

...I had a Glock full-size in .45ACP but it had a terrible feel to it (and I LOVE the Glock 9/40 size frame).

Stay sharp,
desmobob

Which model and which series was it? I have a model 20 in 10mm which is the same frame as the original model 21 in .45 and I agree it's quite a handful. If I didn't love the 10mm caliber so much I might have problems with it. However, I have a much newer model 21SF which has a completely different feel to me. While the 21SF is bigger than my 17, it really fits my hands well. I have very wide hands but very short fingers by comparison, and the 21SF really feels nice to me. Not enough to make me give up my .45 USP Tactical, of course...

If you like the Glocks but haven't handled the 21SF, you owe it to yourself to go to a gunstore (or better yet a range that rents them) and handle one. I already owned the USP T when I did and I ahd to buy the Glock anyway. You can't have too many high quality .45s around, especially if you have lots and lots of high capacity clips for them.

It would be great if someone could post a side to side pic of the Mark 23 and a full sized 1911. Even better would be if someone local to you could let you use it at the range, you paying for ammo or whatever.

Lycosa - Thanks:thumbup:

JWBirch - I appreciate the input!!

PeterPHWS - I hear you on the quality thing all to well!! I was under the impression HK is very high quality also.

iamtoast - Thank you!! A pic of the MK23 would be great next to something I am familiar with. Going to the range this weekend so hopefully I will get some first hand experience.

sal paradise - Thanks!

ftchmup - That is a sweet tactical. I don't think I will be able to get a suppressor though. I wonder if an HK not designed for a suppressor will be more efficient? That is rather than an HK designed for a suppressor yet operated without the suppressor??? If there are no adverse affects than why not have the capability. Thanks!

Oku - so you are saying no to Luger??? thanks!

flatlander - This is very important for me to hear. This is what my friend, submariner81, who has talked to people that really use these things professionally has told me. Thank you!! What is your take on the lack of a suppressor??

mhawg - I love any Colt, beat up or new. I bet you know that pistol well. You could dump a WHOLE LOT OF MONEY into that pistol. Thanks for the story! BTW, you did get the Busse grips in the picture:thumbup:

stricknine - Yeah, I have been thinking a lot about Glock also. Side by side do you think glock is a more dependable firearm than HK?? Thanks! Oh, and I already bought two skinny ash's, one cg and one le this month :barf: I need to slow down on the knives, but thanks for the tempting idea

Now I am somewhat on topic.

iamtoast - Yes it would, thanks!

Best I can do is post a picture of the MK 23 next to a Glock 18 (basically the same size frame as a Glock 17) and a Walther PPK. Clearly the MK23 SOCOM is a huge gun. It looks to me like it's clearly bigger than my USP Tactical which is already about as large a gun as I want to shoot. Granted, my Glock 20 in 10mm is a little bigger, but then I've already said it's a little bigger than I would prefer it to be. Personally I don't see the appeal of the MK 23, the Expert and the Tactical are both better pistol choices in my eyes.

I know this question wasn't aimed at me, but since I have owned many Glocks and currently own 2 HK USPs, I'd like to comment. I have had 5 failures with my Glocks through the years. That's with shooting tens of thousands of rounds through 8 different Glocks in 4 different calibers. I remember exactly how many malfunctions I had because they all happened with the same gun, and they happened with the same box of ammo. When I switched to a different box of ammo the same day I had no malfunctions whatever. I feel comfortable saying Glocks are as reliable as you can get in an auto pistol. That said, I can't ever remember having a malfunction with either of my USPs, I have a USP Compact in .45 and the Tactical. I don't have as many rounds through them as I do the Glocks but I still have more than enough to form my opinion: I trust my HKs to fire as reliably as I do my Glocks.

I posted this earlier, but you can't have too many pictures of HKs and Busses together.

Thanks again everyone!!!

I went to the range today and looked at alot of HK's. Then I saw a Les Baer Custom 4" 45 ACP. I bought it.

I knew I would come home with a 1911.

Thanks again! I hope I made the wise decision.

Come on seven days:D

I could not image it ever being a bad decision to get a very high end custom.

Rich, you can't go wrong with a Baer. Great guns.

I was going to ask why you were so excited about 7 days, then I realized you must be in one of those commie "waiting period" places. At least you can get a gun, but I'd say we're overdue for a modern day Boston Tea Party where we throw politician's heads into the Potomac. I'm quite sure the NMFBM would be capable of lopping some off. :D

Sweet! Congrats richstag!

A compact 1911 is next on my list as well:cool:

For a compact, thin, and light .45 Auto that holds 6+1 rounds, it's hard to beat a Kahr P45:

The 1911 is a great choice. It allows you to customize your pistol to you better then any other pistol design. If you decide to later you can still get a bob-tail grip you can.

4" Les Baer. Yum!

yes sir!

It looks a lot like the one in your picture. It has a blued finish. Where yours says "Baer Custom" this one just says "45 ACP" the only markings on the other side are "Les Baer Custom".

:D

Let me be the first to say"

PICS or it didn't happen!

Just as soon as I have it home with me:thumbup: Paid for in full, but still have to wait:thumbdn:

Yeah, it has been this way for a while here. And yes, at least I can get a gun. Boston Tea Party????:D

Yeah, and it will work with all of my clips, holsters, grips and ammo:D

Congratulations! You have done exceedingly well. Here's to years of happiness. No Regrets! Way to go with the Blued finish as well, there is something glorious about deep blue luster that really connects you to the history of steel weaponry. Can't wait to see your pics!!!
