45ACP Pistol - NOT 1911

I've had a Sig P220 for almost 20 years. It's one of the finest 45s I have ever shot, the accuracy is outstanding!

Glock 21SF IS a good choice even though you said you don't like plastic, Beretta 8045, Sig P220 is a good choice too (I think older ones are not as expensive as the new ones), Smith and Wesson Vick Mackey.

Wintermute, are you opposed to buying used? How about a third gen S&W?

S&W 4566 comes to mind. They're not too hard to find on the broker.

I think you can get them without rails as well.

I would go with a Sig 220 Carry as my first choice, and HK as second and S&W M&P as third. They are all great guns.

I'd say DA revolver. It is 4 rounds short of the 10 round limit, however, it's so much simpler. Not much maintenance needed, and all you have to do is make sure the gun's full. With semi autos, there's the small chance of failure, and they're more complicated to use. All you have to do with a DA revolver is point and pull the trigger.

Also, no one has mentioned AR-15 pistol. Just throwing that out there. :D Yea, I know it's not .45 unless you convert it, but it's damn cool.

Even though you don't want polymer, the h&k usp compact fits everything else you want. SA/DA, 8 in the mag, 1 in the pipe. Reliable as all hell. She shouldn't be diasppointed. I love mine, but I've relegated it to my toilet gun since it won't rust in a moist environment.

How about a Beretta Px4 ?

We in NYstate have a ridiculous 10 round limit !! I've heard many good comments about the Px4 .The rotating barrel mechanism makes it easier on recoil.
Make sure the gun fits your wife well !

Your 'no carry comment ' certainly holds for NYC and perhaps Suffolk and Nassau Co. But not for the rest of the state though a lot depends on the judge.

Add to that one the hk45c. Many people find the 45c a tad more comfortable in hand.

Take her to a gun store and let her handle your top 5 or so choices and see what fits her hand best.

Glock 21 sf or xd. I've had too many stock 45 jamb. My glocks or xd have never had an issue. Confidence is everything.

Sig P250 in any number of various calibers now. DAO. Subcompact, compact, or fullsize.

Better yet - take her to the gunshop and let her handle various makes and models and see what feels good in her hands.

Some nice little snubnose? I like that you decided on the 45, that'll sure knock down an assailant. In most cases a 9mm will too, but you just never know.

Why don't you ask your wife, instead of asking us? Seems like you want to buy her the pistol that you want.
