48 states only

I sold a Dewalt tool that I didn't want that was part of a package on eBay. The winner was from AK and it cost me $35 to ship it. I never thought about shipping costs in the U.S. since I did a quick check and it was $15 to anywhere else in the continental U.S

Needless to say, I no longer ship anything over 1lb. to Hawaii or Alaska.
If you ship standard mail they go by zones. Priority is a flat rate for all the US and I believe the territories.

Should’ve used priority mail flat rate.
The problem was the weight and size of the box. It wasn't any cheaper. Believe me, I looked at all the shipping options. I also should have noted that the $15 was UPS and they didn't have an option to Alaska for anything reasonable.

Flat rate is a “flat rate” up to 70 pounds. Doesn’t matter if it weighed 1 pound or 70.

Going by memory then. It was the size of the box that was the issue.
Sounds like the $35 you paid was a steal. A 10 pound large box priority mail (non flat rate) is like $60 to ship.

Edited to add: I always make the buyer pay shipping so I don’t get caught in those weird situations.
