Recommendation? ~5" fixed & pointy

As a basic cutting tool, just to have it with me knife...with a 5" blade, I'll second the Buck 105.

The top is a Heritage edition in D2, and right at your budget. Middle is the regular version (current steel is 420HC) and a bit under budget.

That said, the obvious answer to What ~5"fixed blade? is SRKW Ratmandu. It's over budget; which simply means your budget is incorrect. Set aside a little extra each paycheck and you'll get there in no time - buy once, cry once.
Came here to say that and you already had. Ratmamdu all the way. Who wouldn’t love this?

How about the Boker Plus Masada? (Discontinued, probably hard to find.)
4.625-inch blade
really pointy
D2 steel
~$111.00

Or a Becker BK18?
4.5-inch blade
really pointy
1095 steel
$104.95

Off-Grid Knives Backcountry
4.5-inch blade
pointy
D2 steel
$79.00

Willumsen Copehagen Despot
4.5-inch blade
pointy
AUS-8 steel
$72.30

Ruike Jager
4.5-inch blade
pointy
Sandvik 14C28N steel
$79.00

Schrade Steel Driver
4.75-inch blade
pointy
AUS-8 steel
$27.49

Schrade I-Beam
5-inch blade
pointy
AUS-8 steel
$29.95

Amazing, thank you! there are some really good knives here ! Something to think about and choose from.

Not exactly what you asked for because it’s longer and more expensive than your original requirements but here’s my favorite pointy knife. Built like a tank, pointy as a needle. If you can make the 7” blade work and are willing to pony up some extra money, it’s well worth it

Not bad at all! Costs over my budget where I live, but it's a good knife, so maybe...
Cold Steel SRK-C is your ticket then.
Looks like it's one of the top candidates, unless I find something sexier

I own many of the knives mentioned here. For that price point, Tereva 140 is the way to go. Get the leather sheath for it as well. If I could only have one knife, this might be it. I like the Buck 119 also and own a few versions but this is just more robust
I will not rule it out. I own a Terävä Skrama 240 and I absolutely love it

Well, this is something very, very close to what I'm looking for! 7" is a little too long but I'll give it thought, it looks super cool

How pointy is too pointy? 😁 these are about 5'', made in Spain, inexpensive and you can get them on Amazon.

If you can find a used BK15 in your price range, it is pointy. Cutting edge is 5" and tip-to-scales is 5.5". The one in the picture is obviously stripped. Failing that, I'll throw in another vote for the BK18, which is still available, as another pokey boy with the Becker Tweener handle.

An alternative would be to approach one of the Bladeforums member makers, some of who make very economical bladeware. That way you can specify the details you need in the knife. The maker forums here can show you whose style you like and if their wares fit your budget.

If you can stretch your budget to the $150 range the field of options grows a fair bit larger, in either custom or commercially available knives.

If that is the shape you want. But want to save a buck.

Look at muela. They do pretty good knives in a pig sticker style.

Having a look. All the usual suspects do them.

Muela, cuderman, nieto, joker.

Yup, the Buck 119 is a pretty tough knife. And I’ll bet that a Cold Steel would be the competitor. Let us know what you decide!
You cannot go wrong with a buck 119.
People will complain that the handle is too smooth, that it is not full tang and that they don’t like the steel.
I personally don’t like super textured (grippy) handles, they give me blisters faster. The smoother the better for me. I also don’t like lanyards and have never had a tool go flying due to lack of grip. I think full tangs are fine but not necessary. I used to think they were necessary when i thought full tang meant the tang just went all of the way through the handle, which is what mattered to me. Hidden tang knives have been used a long time and have their advantages, such as balance, your hand not coming in contact with hot/cold metal, and it usually means a lighter knife.
Bucks heat treatment of 420hc has never left me wanting. It doesn’t have the best edge retention but it is easy to sharpen with simple sharpening equipment, has very good corrosion resistance and apparently is on par with 3v concerning toughness. If you really can’t stand the steel, they make it in other steels, but you will pay more.

For around $70 (and made in the USA) its worth it for everyone to try one.

Probably mentioned before, Buck 105. More finesse and utility than thickness. I suggest also a trio, small ax, a fixed blade like you want and a folder. A Nessmuk trio with out the Ness-I-mess. 😀 Pack carry or in the truck, although I have been thinking of one of my Nessies, but that is another topic as it is out of the OP’s budget.
