5 knives you regret purchasing

my autos. specifically the piranha excalibur. i was a knife noob and it looked cool, was wicked expensive. it has too much blade play and i don't know what to do with it now.

Not too many, but I sometimes wonder why on earth do I have those large Busses that are too heavy and way too bulky to use. They are wonderful blades and I'm not about selling 'em, but they are utterly useless.

Yeah, and my ZT301. Nice solid folder, but I don't like AOs and the detent of the folder is so and so.

None. Every one of them fills a purpose, even if the purpose is just my desire to own and handle them.

Why no regrets? Because I never buy without trying, so I always have at least some idea of what to expect. Plus I never buy a user knife under €30 or over €150. Keeps "China Stainless" brand away from my pockets, and there are no unrealistic expectations. If I buy a, say, a cheapo push dagger, it's not for using many times. I just tape it somewhere and hope to never use it.

In the €50-€100 price range there are rarely any surprises or disappointments, if you don't go for the gimmicks and fads.

MOD CQD. I paid $200 for it. It was too big, unwieldy, unergonomic, and the pocket clip keep coming loose.

Strider DB
Sog Scuba Demo
Tops Sierra Scout
BRKT Patch knife
Grayman MEGA POUNDER

Rat Cutlery RC-5. Good knife, but became a god damn expensive one to get it over the seas. Also Im not a fan of the fanboyism around those knives*. Blah.

* = yea yea go and figure.

NO REGRETS!

Isn't that some sort of Busse slogan?

Yeah I think so. Let's drink!

Back on topic, I don't have any that I regret purchasing. I consider my purchases very carefully and I don't buy crap. I do have a couple of knives that never get used, but only because I later found something that does the same things that I like even better.

I just figured there are some knives that looked good but then they failed

My Dejavoos, mini and regular. They look great, felt great in the hand, loved the blade shape. Had problems with the linerlock. Felt like I was gonna break it. After I got rid of both Dejavoos, I figured I would try again, and got the same thing. Great design, but never again.

I don't think I have any "buyer's regret" for any of my knives. I will often jump when I see a cool new knife, but I seldom "impusle buy" without doing a bit of research for reviews or owner comments so I have not been stung with a good-looking lemon... yet!

Cold Steel Double Agent II. Awesome little fixed blade, nice sheath, sharper than a razor, it's a nasty little knife... and I never carry it, nor do I ever see myself doing so.
Still nice for the collection, but I would not have bought had I known.

The closest thing to "regret" would be my Benchmade Nimravus in ATS-34.

The thing chips if you look at it wrong and then it's a PITA to sharpen.

Looks cool though.

Now serving duty in the Jeeps tool bag...in case some Zombies crash my fishing spots.

SOG Twitch XL - The lock did not work. It took SOG Customer service three tries to get me a replacement that did work and then I gave it away. They suck.

SOG Gov-Tac - When they first started coming out of Taiwan. It sucked big time and was the last SOG I will ever buy.

CRKT M16 - My younger son destroyed this POS. He has a Microtech Socom since that I used for a couple of years and he has had about 4 years now.

Kershaw - I don't remember the model but it had green plastic handles and was an assited opener. My older Son destroyed this one, it lasted a while but still only a year or so. He has a BM McHenry Williams since and that is over five years. It works well for him as he is a lefty.

Both boys are Eagle Scouts and use their equipment hard.

I can't think of others but I am sure there are some. These are the worst though.

All KA-BAR Becker knives I own all five came blemished. Two were sent back and were replaced with two other blemished knives. I do not believe I'll ever buy another KA-BAR. I also bought a KA-BAR Dozier and it came to me blemished with bad grinds, sent it back and they sent me another with grinded off bevels on the spine : ( No quality control at KA-BAR

I do not like fanboys either and KA-BAR Becker has them a plenty. Nothing personal just that I prefer truth and facts over loyalty and chanting.

1). TOPS Tom Brown Tracker. Fell for the movie "Bait and switch" thinking I was getting a "Beck" and got the "Blech"
2). Kershaw Onion. Flimsy handle.
3). Kershaw Chive. Repeated accidental openings left mysterious chinese characters scarred into my flesh, and the resulting blood stains ruined some nice clothes.

I purchased a ZT 350st at the gun show in my area (on impuse)... I wish I would have waited and purchased the ZT 350 pe satin... :(

Correct me if I'm wrong syletoy, but after reading lots, if not most of your posts, I get a slight feeling that maybe, just maybe, you're not a fan of Becker or Kabar

Fanboys can be annoying, and haters are no worse, IMHO.

Since I picked up my first decent knife about 3 or 4 years ago, I've definitely had some regrets, especially in the beginning when I was figuring out what I liked or didn't like:

Kershaw Lahar - I thought it looked great when it first came out, and I snatched one up. It was just too big for EDC (measurements don't translate well for me).

Gerber LMF II - This knife interested me for quite some time before I found a deal that I just couldn't pass up. I've always preferred PE, and I thought I could get over the serrations . . . nope, couldn't do it.

CRKT Hissatsu Folder - Another one I picked up early in my knife career, thought it looked bada$$. The knife was stiff as hell, and I hurt my thumb just trying to get the AO to engage.

Opinels - Surprising I know. I understand what great values they are, but the lack of a clip meant they got little to no pocket time. I ended up selling or giving them away.

Those are the ones I can remember, will update when I get a chance.
