5 knives you regret purchasing

crkt probably has the least sharp knives with the crappiest metal. i agree that almost everything they make seems to be a letdown and not good at doing their job.

Ka-Bar Short Utility PS, Too short for any kind of chopping, bad shape for batoning...and just unpleasing too the eye.

Spyderco Native 3, I thought since I loved my Native (great knife, bad clip) I should buy the newer native 3, I don't like the curvy 'egro' shape of the handle now. The gmyping on the spine is horrible and my hand slips, I need to have a knife that I can get a good hold on, same problem with RAT-1, and BM 740 (still great knives though). If the Native with S30V had a wire clip, it'd be the perfect edc for me.

Ontario 14' machete, horrible sheath it came with...I'd also feel like an idiot with a machete. Rather have an axe or tomohawk, much more practical.

Other then that, not really anything. When I first got in to knives like alot of people I bought knives based on looks, "Assissan's Knife", so I regret all the chinese specials, but in a way I don't because those are what led me to the nicer stuff.

CRKT Mini My Tighe- heavy for its size, I didnt like the outburst assist or the auto LAWKS

SOG Visionary II- a lot of blade play right out of the box, blade play even after tightening the pivot, handle was flimsy, clip moved from side to side even when tightened, i didnt like how the arc lock worked I expected it to be more like the axis (probably my worst knife purchase yet!)

SOG Trident- too big, kinda expensive for what it was (I dont really regret this one because it got used, but I should have gotten something else at the time)

Kershaw Leek- I felt that it was just too small for my hands (thickness)

My CRKT M16-10Z.

AUS4, chisel grind, tanto tip, combo edge.

Basically everything I don't like in a knife, all combined into one package.

However, this was the knife that got me onto the forums and finding the knives that I really like.

I do love the flipper and I'm a fan of the Auto-LAWKS system. In fact I think I would like the knife quite a bit if it was a spearpoint plain edge version.

I regret purchasing my Rainbow Groove a little bit. I'm too afraid to scratch it up, so I never carry it. Yes, I have a $60 safe-queen.

at least you only have a $60 safe queen instead of those guys with thousands tied up in Busse's they don't plan on using.

The only knife I regret buy was a used Kershaw Scallion but I ended up selling it for more than I paid

Regret is a little strong, but there have been a few I might have had second thoughts about:

I bought a couple of CRKT liner locks that I don't really have a lot of use for. I also have a newer model Gerber that wasn't a smart buy. And I bought some rusty old Camillus GI knives on the bay that aren't in particularly good shape.

I also sold my ZT0301 not long after I bought it--too big for a folder. Another Kershaw I questioned was a Talon model--what were they (and I) thinking?

Other than that I think I've done allright.

My Benchmade Benchmite and my Kershaw Leek. They're both good knives, don't get me wrong, but totally not to my liking.

The Benchmite, well, it turns out I hate 2 handed opening, and the knife 1 hand opens only half the time.

The Leek has fairly meh steel (440A model), I have found the I don't like AO, or plain stainless steel handles, as they're very slippery, and the knife is not particularly comfortable for me. Also, not much part of regret, but oddly, the framelock will engage, but can be pushed over all the way to the other side of the frame with no resistance and it doesn't even touch the tang.

Buck/Strider 881--Scrawny lock, off-center blade, texturing on G10 scales
suitable for grating cheese or filing fingernails.

Emerson Raven--Thumb stud in wrong place.

CRKT Rollock--Just plain silly.

boker 4" stag hunter - great design but lots of f and f problems. was super soft 440a steel...and never performed

boker subclaw - great little knife but never really got used to the hawkbill. i bought the knife knowing aus8 was a deal breaker for me, and when it rusted under light use i sold it.

1. Anything that resembles a Buck 110 - and isn't a Buck 110.
2. Several assorted Bear MGC knives - their 110 clone - a 297.
3. Buck 850 Bravo - poorly effected design - 'different' idea
4. SS German slippies (Hen & Rooster and German Bull) - CS Boker Tree Brand classics spoiled me!
5. Gerber/Leatherman 'multi-tools' - Vic SAKs rule!

Lots of negative waves/bad mojo/evil thoughts for the KaBar fighting knife. Let's be reasonable - it's no Bark River Bravo-1. It filled a utility knife need - during wartime - at a great price - and didn't employ strategic materials. I have my Dad's from WWII in the So. Pacific and some new ones - keepers all. My one KaBar Dozier, a 4062 from Taiwan, is a great value for <$20. The Gerber LMFII my son gave me - well, it was a gift... else it'd be on my list.

Stainz

1 Frost Cutlery, back when I didn't know any better and they looked like such a great deal
2 Anything by CRKT
3 Ontario RTAK II
4 Case Barlow
5 Benchmade Apparition

I don't have 5 knives that I regret purchasing. But a few I have regretted are:

1. S30V Hide Away Knife. Its a good idea in theory, its just not good for me. I paid a lot of money for a Ionbond coated recurved HAK and it came to me without a sharpened edge (it was almost a squared edge, I think it might of missed a step in the manufacturing process). Customer service out of the company is not existent, no help from E-mails to them.

2. SOG Seal Team Elite. I like the knife and Kydex sheath. I just wasn't fond of the Serrations or the Zytel Handle. I also prefer non-coated blades.

3. Boker Subcom, a fixed blade Boker knife. Too small to be useful. Bad Sheath retention. Uneven blade grinds. Bad quality control.

Thats all I can think of at the moment.

CH made Schrade= crap steel

Puma zytel lockback=ok, but too expensive

Schrade USA guide hunter DP= Rubber handle the size of a door handle

CRKT M-16 tanto= kept it, but ground tanto into a spear point;realized I hate Tantos

Cold steel hawk= head always loosens;no mods help

Not too many, but I sometimes wonder why on earth do I have those large Busses that are too heavy and way too bulky to use. They are wonderful blades and I'm not about selling 'em, but they are utterly useless.

Its funny - I was always in awe how popular the Busse's are with knife-a-holics....because of the reason you are stating here. Glad to see there is someone else who thinks of them as I do - though I have to admit I do not own one nor have I handled one, so maybe I am missing out on something special, I dunno...

wow, that's the worst combination ever... serrated tanto in AUS4...:thumbdn:

Hehe, I was such a noob back then. I guess that knife was well worth it considering it taught me all the things I don't like about knives at once :D

i bet it had a low quality black coating, an overly abrasive flipper, stiff action, paper thin liner, and lawks, too. oh crkt...

Actually it has a satin blade, awesome flipper, awesome action (had to loosen the pivot a bit), the liner is on the thin side but I don't see it being a problem, and I quite like Auto-LAWKS.

The really sad thing was that one of my friends went out and bought one at the local store for ~$50. If only he would have talked to me first, I would have given him mine!
