5 knives you regret purchasing

None. Every one of them fills a purpose, even if the purpose is just my desire to own and handle them.

Why no regrets? Because I never buy without trying, so I always have at least some idea of what to expect. Plus I never buy a user knife under €30 or over €150. Keeps "China Stainless" brand away from my pockets, and there are no unrealistic expectations. If I buy a, say, a cheapo push dagger, it's not for using many times. I just tape it somewhere and hope to never use it.

In the €50-€100 price range there are rarely any surprises or disappointments, if you don't go for the gimmicks and fads.

3) Buck 347 Vantage 'Pro'. Came off-center and too tight to flip. Back off pivot screw, centering goes to hell. Tighten pivot screw to center and you need pliers to draw the blade.

1.) Open your knife
2.) Bend the liner a bit to the other side (not too much, but just put some pressure on it)
3.) Use some mineral oil on pivot/washers
4.) Put back together
5.) Bliss!

Emerson Raven. I loved the style and size of this knife. Too bad the liner lock was awful. Two trips back to Emerson and it never got any better. It now rests at the bottom of Buzzards's Bay after a burial at sea.

I usually don't regret my purchases because I reseasrch the hell out of whatever I'm buying. You've seen my threads looking for purchasing advice. I do have one regretful knife purchase though. Not that I regret buying it but I regret the knife having a design flaw. The AG Russell RUS-FX180. Beautiful knife but when closing the blade could make contact with one of the frame screws with minimal pressure. Only opening and closing it several times resulted in a tiny chip out of the cutting edge. I returned it and am awaiting a refund. AG Russell's service is exactly what you've heard it is too. Stellar. I got an email response promising a full refund upon return of the knife in less than 30 minutes from my initially emailing them. Odds are if they addressed this flaw in this model knife I would purchase another but until then it is my first and only knife regret.

Gerber covert fast - My first knife. Don't like a/o knives and is a combo edge.
Kabar caiman - Lock was 0% when I got, so there was play from the start.
Kabar full tanto CE - It's a tanto with combo edge. I thought it looked cool at the time.
Cold Steel urban pal - Not really useful for anything I do.
SAK Tiffany and co .925 silver classic - It just sits in its box.

Thumb studs are hard to use, thick to carry. Detent is tight, it's not that bad, just not my favorite.

Boker Magnum Great Knight
Boker Plus Mini Resurrection - 3rd rplcmnt, each one had rock lock
Mantis Chaos Folder
SOG Arcitech Damascus - looked good but not for me, took a $75 hit on selling it too
Any MTech knife I've ever owned early on in my collecting. Looks drew me in, but performance and quality pushed me away

Live, collect and learn huh?

My Top 5 would have to be:

Bradley Alias 2 - Faulty lock, lots of shenanigans getting it repaired.

Spyderco Tenacious - Really disliked the steel.

Spyderco Manix 2 XL - Really stiff lock, lots of blade play, and way too big for me.

Cold Steel TiLite - Neat novelty item, but kind of a piece of junk.

Benchmade Presidio - Spent more time getting repaired than it did getting used.

My one knife that I hate to death that I impulse bought because it was one sale was the Gerber guardian backup. Gross knife. I regret it fully.

Spyderco Manix 2,well built, sharp as a razor, but the ergos were all wrong for me.I hate a large choil

Cutco 1891 lock back, Cutco drop point hunting knife and Cutco fisherman's solution. I took their presenation an sold cutco for a few weeks when I was a yong man and found sales wasn't for me. But they sold me on their knives after listening to their spiel. I found my self living near one of the few Cutco stores and purchased a few Cutcos thinking they were good knives. It prompted me to research knives and blade steel a little bit and I now kind of feel like I over paid for knives made with 440A. I still kinda like them but the lock back knife has blade play after only a few months of use. Their customer service seems good an they are supposed to be sending me another one. but for what it cost I should have a knife made with a higher quaility steel. But it was this lesson that got me into collecting. the more I learned about knives and blade steel prompted me to want to buy more knives, but better ones.

4. Spyderco Smallfly Black G10 - I actually love this knife, and that's why I hate it. I never have the opportunity to use it, as it's illegal to carry balis where I live, and flip my larger balis more often, but I just can't bring myself to get rid of this.
3. PCC(Benchmade) 239 - The Zamax handles were a major turn off for me, and I was annoyed by the lack of a latch gate when learning to flip it.
2. Kershaw Leek - Not a bad knife in it's own right, it just never fit my hand and didn't serve my purposes.
1. Smith and Wesson M&P5 - The first knife I bought, and I got it for the A/O and glass breaker. I bought it in the same order as a Kershaw volt II, and the volt blew it out of the water.

Spyderco Delica 4- uncomfortable handle, vertical blade play (smooth opener though!)
Spyderco Endura 4- see above, I bought 3 different ones planning on keeping the best and waited too long to return them
Kershaw Half Ton- absolute worst lock up I have ever handled, guillotine-style cutout
Kershaw Leek- too smooth, horrible blade centering with bent tip, weak tip
Byrd Meadowlark 2- very thin blade (whatever), I could defeat the lock easily by hand!

Lots of runner ups, unfortunately...
