5 Traditional Knife "Must Haves"

LOVE the Schrade Little Finger. (Top knife in this photo.) I have at least one of them, maybe two. A very useful knife. Feels very good in hand. :)

I think it is my favorite fixed blade for routine work. I have two as well; one was a white handle version intended to be scrimmed, but was marked as a second. Nothing was wrong with it as far as a user, so I picked it up. The only one of the "finger" series I don't have is the guthook version. I'm not a fan of blades with guthooks on them, I prefer to use one of specialty tools for that if need be. I have always been able to do that work with a standard knife. The little finger and the drop point version work very well for that. Now, I had to deal with a moose, I might be inclined to a different and larger knife. The puukko in the photo, that I got from Jani here, might work fine though.

Hi Ed, I agree with everything you say here. :) That is one of my absolute favorite knives as well.
I've looked at those white handled ones before, but never pulled the trigger for some reason.
I've never been a fan of the gut hook blade either. To me, that creates a weak point. Just my opinion.
The reason I say I think I still have two is because I seem to have misplaced one. Probably hidden from myself in a safe place. (I do that on occasion) ;)
The one I still have in sight is one of the earlier ones with (IMO) the better sheath. The other has the later style sheath, IIRC.

5 Traditional Must Have.... that´s a small choice with at a great ammount of knives - I´d say

- Regular Trapper
- Stockman
- Jackknife (any Case)
- traditional european pattern in generl (France, Italy, Germany etc etc)
- Barlow

in no specific order ;)

Just wondering if everyone here still hold the same opinion? Plus it might be nice if some of our newer members got a chance to see this thread.
Not saying I'm bumping an old thread, just sayin............... ;)

I can stand by my original 5 (grudgingly) Would like to add a small Douk-douk and maybe a Case cv trapper (in yellow of course).

As a new member to this fine forum I would love to see this bumped! I have a feeling that the choices have changed. It's interesting to see the differences just on the collecting side of the spectrum. There are a few members that I would like to see post here and I hope they do. Not calling anyone out but in the hopes they do I will follow it. And for the older forum members I will contribute just because they may want to see what a newer members list may be. :)
