This is post 3,000 for me, and February marked my 5th year on the forums. I thought I would host a GAW to celebrate. In this case, a traditional knife or knives will be given, please see below.

Who is eligible:
Any regulars to the Porch, I'll recognize your user name if you are. I will do my best to ship to anyone outside the USA, mods are welcome as well.

The prize(s):
I will spend $100 at any of the approved BladeForums dealers, on a traditional knife or knives, I hope this list is still up to date:

https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/paid-dealer-members-list-updated-2-5-16.1089879/

The way this will work is like this: I'll spend $100, but it doesn't have to be one winner. If the first winner would like an Opinel, for example, that will leave $88-ish dollars for someone else, etc. We will keep going until the $100 is gone. I leave this open for one week, then select the first winner next Sunday.

To enter:
To enter, post a picture or description of your favorite budget knife, whatever that may mean to you. Then post "I'm in" and a link to the knife, or knives, you would like. Winners will be selected by random draw.

Thanks to BladeForums for 5 fun years!

Tom,
This is very generous of you and a great idea for a GAW! 3000 posts over 5 years is a lot of contribution to the porch congratulations :)
I don't mind being the first entry to kick things off. I'm in
I just haven't been able to join the Opinel club I am sure they are great but just not practical for me. My favorite budget knife has to be the yellow CV Peanut. You can buy a new one for <$30 and there is a whole thread dedicated to how mighty this particular legume is.

In the spirit of budget knives and discovering great bangs for the buck, I'd like to try a Buck Solo if I were to win this GAW. One of our approved dealers, DLT Trading, has them available for $13.95.

Good luck to everyone :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Not an entry, been too lucky lately, but it is always fun to participate.

My favorite overall budget knife would be a Svord Peasant Knife, but right now the one I am loving is @skblades Smoke Jumper knife. He is currently out of stock, but I think he is planning on ordering another run. It is a lightweight Buck 110 with a CPM 154 blade. I actually bought one, and then it got stolen out of my car, but I had liked it so much I turned right around and bought another one. They are under $40, and a great all around knife.

If you asked the question at your 2000th, the answer would have been RR, but since, the axle got loose and made its use unsafe.

So now it is Colonial and CRKT Torreya, the last being a fantastic value/money ratio! In fact I wish I had paid a bit more and have an upgraded steel, still would be a bargain and a great tool.

Tom, congrats on your milestone, I always look forward to your nice photos! I'm in, and here is the link to a knife, should I win:

My favorite budget knife is the RR Eureka stockman, a 3⅜" little beauty that they made in four different cover options, around $10. This photo shows one closed, and one each with the different blades open.

My favorite of the four is the yellow Delrin with badge shield.

Congratulations Tom, it's been great having you here these last 5 years :) Thanks for the generous giveaway, very kind of you, and it's a nice theme

My current favourite cheapie is my Arthur Wright Large Lambsfoot (The Big 'Un) with rosewood covers - £32 (just under $42)

Please count me in, if I can have a Zorro Barlow (which should leave about $95 in the pot if I pay shipping)! :D

Thanks for the GAW Tom. Sometimes the budget knives outperform their more expensive cousins because they put all their efforts into what counts. This Douk-Douk has proven its indestructability for many years. In the spirit of your GAW I'd choose another Douk-Douk, the Squirrel model with a spear point. Forgot to add the link. http://www.baryonyxknife.com/lecurieul.html

This GAW is just too fun to pass up...
Congrats on your milestones and thanks for hosting such a fun and unique GAW.
If my number is chosen, I'd like my win to go to @5K Qs , you'll see why :D:D:D

My Best Bang-for-the-Buck, Budget Knife, is the Case Yellow Mini Trapper. You can't beat it for about $25.00...

If chosen, I'd like GT to receive the Novelty Knife, Native Canoe, it costs around $9 Bucks...

Thanks for the entries so far, keep ‘em coming.

Lol, I’ll cover the shipping as well, the $100 is just the price of the knife or knives.

Congratulations on 3,000 posts, Tom! I always enjoy seeing your EDC pics. Especially those Bark River City Knives.

My current favorite budget knife is this little CRKT Quill Knife. It costs under $20 and it's a unique and well made little knife. It's a little different with the dagger type blade but I'm attracted to things that are a little different and I just adore the dang thing.

If I should happen to be among the lucky winners, I would like to have a Blue Alox Cadet (or any color that's still available at the time) from DLT Trading:

Thank you very much for the chance, Tom!

Congrats on the milestones, and thank you for your generosity. This is not an entry for me, though.

Many budget knives have been posted that are fantastic values. I would like to post about a different take on "budget", though, and talk about budget custom knives.

Many people are scared off from customs because of the many (excellent) customs out there for 300-, 500-, 1000+ dollars. The knives posted below were all in the $90-100 range and are customs from members of our very own forum.

G L Drew made the following two knives from 3/32" 52100 steel and wrapped them in beautiful wood handles. They even came with custom leather sheaths, all for the price of a GEC! Fantastic value and budget-conscious customs.

This laser beam of a knife was custom made by Austin Goldman from .071" AEB-L (a truly wonderful steel, imo), and again, costs about the same as a typical GEC.

Just because they are "budget" customs does not mean they are of shoddy workmanship, either. The heat treating performed by G L Drew, Austin Goldman, and other "budget" makers like JK Knives are absolutely top notch. I don't see any glue lines, gaps, misalignment, faults in materials, or grind errors in any of these knives. I never thought I would be able to afford a custom knife, honestly, but because of some very talented makers selling their knives for modest prices, I was able to get my foot in the door. I've bought more expensive custom fixed blades since, but I carry my JK Knives, Goldmans, and Drew's with much more frequency.

Good luck to all entrants! I look forward to finding more budget treasures in the knife world.

Even if it isn't totally conventional it really is a cool little knife...and pretty to look at. Mine still sees rotation time for sure.

Congratulations Tom! This is not an entry but since I enjoy your post I want to support your cool GAW.

My wife found this Hammer Brand (1945-1955) for $10.00
She gave it to me and it became priceless.

Great knife James! I have around 20 shell construction Imperial (Hammer Brand), Colonial and Richard's knives that were all $10 to $20... once you clean and oil them they are really nicely made knives :) Great for handing out to friends and family :D

Thanks Kevin. The Hammer Brand stockman I have has been a good knife. It functions well and I like the scale's color. My wife is not generally involved in my hobby so receiving a knife as a gift from her is quite special. If I had the opportunity to buy another similar Hammer Brand, I would without hesitation.
