Hi,
In this thread I would like your opinions on what I would like to call the medium price range, say between $50-100. I did search the topic and found a similar thread but it doesn’t hurt to ask again.

The inexpensive range, order-of-magnitude $20-50, is sort of occupied by SAKs and Opinels I guess. But the next level go to folder, if you would pick one, what would it be?

Buck 110?
Cold steel Recon 1?
Ontario rat 1/2? (Edit: they are less than $50?)

Edit,

So,
It seems by popular vote, the winners are

Brand: 🥇Spyderco
Runner up: 🥈Cold Steel

Knife: 🥇Delica and 🥇 Endura (shared)
Runner up: 🥉American Lawman

If you're asking between those three options, the 110 is kind of a different animal than the Recon 1 or the RAT.

But some I'd add to that list that I've used personally and liked would be the Spyderco Delica, Cold Steel Code 4, and the Kershaw Leek.

yes I believe the Ontario’s are about $30-$40 depending on if it’s a D2 model. I’m a big fan of Kershaws/ZTs so I would go with a kershaw link in 20cv. Lotta knife for the money ($70), deep carry clip, good size.

Between the recon 1 and the buck 110 I would go with the recon. It has one of the best grips a knife could possibly have and a pocket clip which is convenient.
The Buck 110 in S30v is nice too at around $100, but offers no finger gaurd if you slip off the handle. Excellent gentleman’s knife tho, and the 2 110s I own are some of the sharpest, pointiest, best QC knives I have.
So to sum it up, I guess it depends what you’re looking for, hard use/SD or just cutting/slicing, and having a classy version of the most famous blade to show you’re buddy’s.

I would go classic Buck 110 and another 110 slim with cash to spare. Last week (that big box store based out of Arkansas) online had the classic 110 with ebony for $35.

I would second the Delica.

An amazing knife extremely thin and sharp. I carried one for years starting with the 2nd generation (a penny to remove the clip version). I need some for an office setting so I bought a purple one. Carried that for a while and switched to something for friendly looking.

Thanks, no I didn’t intend to limit the choices, I’m curious if there will be a bladeforums universal go to folder emerging

I’m not sure if you could get the disparate Knife Knuts here to agree that breathing air was a good thing!

They'd say "wellll... if you're willing to pay just a little more, you could get a Spyderco PM2".

Or a Smatchet.

Or they'd ignore the dollar limit and tell you all about the Sebenza.

No, I'm not salty, at all. But, could I ask you to remove yourself from my lawn?

Anyone with sufficient time/interest could easily create a list of 100 "general purpose" knives currently priced in the $50-100 range.

Which one you choose/recommend depends entirely on what your needs/preferences/budget are.

The Buck 110, Recon 1 and RAT 1 are ALL designed differently and range widely in price and features. The Buck is considered a "camp" knife. The Recon is a considered a "tactical" knife. And the RAT 1 is a considered a basic "utility" knife.

Of the 3, IMO, the RAT is really the ONLY truly "general purpose" knife. Buy 1 and call it a day.

If you want/need some other "general purpose" suggestions, try the Spyderco Tenacious, Emphasis, Endura, Endela or Delica. These are just a few (but not all) of "general purpose" knives offered for sale by Spyderco.

However, there are still many other "general purpose" knives made by Kershaw, CRKT and Chinese knife makers (like Real Steel, WE, Civi, Kizer, Reate, Artisan Cutlery among others) who make knives specifically targeted in the $50-100 range, which is a marketing "sweet spot" for knives.

Scan the online catalogs of the major knife vendors and you'll be able to see them all.

If you can find it, CIVIVI elementum in S35VN would be my choice.

Kershaw blur in S30V, but that assist might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Ferrum Forge Stinger is a great choice...

Too many to list lol
