Benchmade Griptilian. On a sale the full size can be just under $100, they make great edc, utility, beater knives. Easy to open and close even with gloves on, S30V is good steel, the nylox handles are about indestructible and contrary to popular belief Omega springs just don't fail on a regular basis.

Kershaw Method, I recently purchased one and it is starting to get more pocket time than my premium knives.

Very pointy tip if that's a problem for you.

I would recommend the SOG Tac XR, great utility blade shape, good ergonomics, and well built/tough knife. On sale currently on some websites for $63.99 - I've really been impressed with mine. It has completely kicked out some knives out of the rotation that are much more expensive.

Buck 110 or 112. Standard, Custom Shop, or Dealer Exclusives with upgraded steel and covers
Puma lockback
Rat 1 or 2. with Aus 8 or D2 blade.
I think Boker has a rather nice made in Germany 2 blade 5.5 inch closed slipjoint folding hunter in that price range, as well.
You can also find Trappers, and the Moose pattern in the $50 to $100 price point ... and less ...
If you want a "gentleman's" folder, the Case Canoe with either True Sharp Stainless Steel or CV Carbon Steel blades is in that price range.
Case currently has the Barlow "in the vault", so if you want a new Barlow you have to go to Boker Tree Brand, or some other company.
I have no idea why Case puts a common pattern like the Barlow "in the vault" forcing potential buyers to the arms of their competition ... seems mighty daRn stupid to me, but I didn't write their business plan, and I ain't in charge at Zippo-Case ...

Surprised no one has recommended the CS Air Lite. Pretty good value and seems like CS's AUS10A is quite the budget performer.

Only issue I have is the edge is kinda thick compared to say Spyderco's stuff. However, for "general purpose," I guess it kinda makes sense; no worries if you have flex the knife into a heavier duty role. TBF, the edge is really not much different from a sabre ground Endura.

Another +1 for the Endura.

Anyone with sufficient time/interest could easily create a list of 100 "general purpose" knives currently priced in the $50-100 range.

Which one you choose/recommend depends entirely on what your needs/preferences/budget are.

Pretty much says it all.

Surprised no-one mentioned the Spyderco Tenacious.....or did I miss it.

Sgt was all over it. But the one that has been missing all this time is:

Spyderco Resilience.

Finally! Somebody with some sense! Okay, teasing, but that's just my love for the Resilience showing through. It would be my top suggestion, if one were into larger blades, and the Tenacious would be next. There is just something about the strength, ergos and overall design of these knives that just hits all the right buttons for me. At this price range, they do everything I want, and do it well. After my mods, though, I feel they hold their own in the next price range, if not the one after that. To make the point, I EDC a Resilience I modified, and have preferred it to the Manix 2, Manix 2 XL, Military, Caribbean, Yojimbo, Yojiumbo, Endura, Pac Salt 1, Pac Salt 2, Shaman, Police 4, etc.

I don't think that the Tenacious is a good value anymore in a world where you can buy a Rat 1 or 2 in D2 for less than a tenacious and you can get at least a few Civivi models in either D2 or 14C28N for the same money.

That's assuming materials are all that create value. The design keeps selling, despite "subpar" materials, for a reason.

Cold Steel really has no competition in this price range for a serious working , hard use , survival or SD folder .

If you just want a cool looking , fidgety flipper for casual use, there are tons of other brands that will be easier and prettier .

Thanks everyone,
After considering all your suggestions, I declare Schrade Cliphanger to be the winner

Just joking 😊

At this point two main contenders seem to emerge, Cold Steel and Spyderco. Recon 1, American Lawman, Delica and Endura pops up a lot. 👍

Please keep ‘em coming, it is very educational and entertaining
