So If someone gave you $50 to spend on a knife which knife would you pick?

I realize this has been done to death, but the market changes and so do opinions, so just throwing this thread out there :)

Thx,

I would look hard at Civivi. Or a tenacious. Or a Leek. Or the vanguard Gemini that was posted in the exchange yesterday. Or a Boker kalashnikov. Maybe the strike. The link is nice. So is the dividend. A D2 Rat is damn near perfect.
a 801 Ruike is hard to beat. Atmos is always worth a look. And a second look.

I might add that I've been looking at a civivi wyvern and am very close to just pulling the trigger but the frn is the dog that's keeping me up on the fence.

I'd save that 50 and buy something that costs more later when I save more.
I agree, one of my favorite knives is a ZT 0393glcf but I like a little diversity in my collection. Also I have friends that are not as addicted as I am that think I'm crazy for buying a knife over $50. Even though some of them can afford a more expensive knife they are afraid of losing it or getting it scratched up etc. Fortunetly, I don't have that problem :).

Smart thing would be to hold onto the money until the right choice was obvious. Or until that “too good to pass up” deal came along.

With that said. The CRKT minimalist neck knives are awesome. You could get two for $50. I have the Bowie and will get the wharncliffe soon.

If you like any of the sub-$50 Civivi knives, go for it. I have the Naja ($42.50) and the Courser ($68). Both have nice, thin, slicey blades that came good and sharp from the factory. Both were easy to disassemble and had clean internals. When you see multiple reviewers saying that the actions are as good as knives that cost twice as much, they aren't kidding. I've been been very impressed so far and I'm looking forward to see what else they come up with.

If I had a 50$ sized hole in my pocket I'd buy new pants. But that's just me. In all seriousness I echo Mo2 Mo2 , set it aside and get something a little more expensive later. WE has some excellent stuff in the ~150ish range like the Practic or the Streak. Spyderco has some interesting stuff in that range as well, like the Ikuchi or Yojimbo. A personal favorite of mine that I haven't bought but keep eyeing is the Raffir Noble Chaparral.

A steel will cut jack. The full size. I really like my mini but should have bought the larger on.

Once your friends get past that fear, they will understand. I think everyone has to overcome this at some time or another.

I don't care if its 400$ knaf it goes in my pocket and I use it when I need it. Scratches... Whatever. Loosing it, probably not loosing something I take alot of pride in and know the value of... But even so, if someone is prone to loosing things because they are careless, I can understand that.

Scratches can be sanded out. Spa treatments etc. And really who cares. It's a tool. I'm not buying just to sell or keep in a safe.

Personally I'd rather have a good knife or two with a good heat treatment than multiple okay cheaper knives.

With that said I'd recommend Manly knives. They have good heat treatments and very thin behind the edge in a few steels offered. Working man knives. Good prices too.

if you don't like frn, get the statera - it's also d2 steel, but with g10+cf overlays and looks similar, and about $20 more
