Well the big 50 birthday is coming upon me next week.
I though I would buy myself a special Traditional for this occasion.
My question to all you slip joint fans is:
If it was your 50th birthday and what knife would you buy for yourself or Suggest that I buy?

I respect all your responses and opinions.

thanks

Its the buck 110's 50th this year isn't it? You could get a special anniversary one thats as old as you :)

I'm thinking something along the lines of the Northwoods Madison Barlow with some special etching to commemorate your getting old officially. :D You know you can begin to get a senior discount in just a few years.

Cool suggestion.

I had my 50th last year. Marked the occasion by purchasing a pair of JBF Champlin #85's, one serial #49 and the other #50.

Happy birthday and many more.

Gosh I guess I'd treat myself to that one that I really have been wanting but put off because of this or that reason! :)

Just had my 50th a few months ago. I personally bought myself a #61 Half-Congress in Elephant Ivory at that time when I spotted it on the Exchange - sort of a gift to myself.

I think something special like a Northwoods Norfolk or Norfolk whittler in, stag, ivory or mammoth, something you can enjoy as the years past, and is pocket friendly.

Pete

Ps Happy 50th in advance

Something special? Maybe a Custom from Loyd, Davidson, or one of the other fine custom slipjoint makers.... Maybe a Lanny's Clip or Tribal Spear.

Well my 50th is a done deal. I'd say that if I had the chance to have a 50th birthday again (would't that be nice!), I'd go for a handmade slip-joint by one of this forums regulars. Maybe something like a small Lanny's Clip.

Here's one that Brent Cramer made for me.

How much are you willing to spend? There are nice knives at all sorts of price points.

I would go the custom route. The Lannys Clip, front pocket, back pocket or Zulu patterns are great. Happy birthday by the way.

I am in the same boat Big Papa. I turn 60 on the 5th and the wife said get something special. If I were you, for a 50th, I would get a nice custom made. Davidson was mentioned. That would be nice.
Depends on the budget. Happy Birthday . Get something REALLY REALLY nice. You deserve it and will never regret buying a quality blade. Kevin

I got a DoukDouk for my 50th. Great, but simple knife, reasonably priced, holds up to life's hardships. Good model for the rest of a person's life.

If I had the budget for it, I'd get a custom made of my favorite pattern. Barring that, I'd look at the offerings from Great Eastern Cutlery.

I have no idea of your taste, so I will give a generic answer, without mentioning any knife or pattern.
First thing that comes to mind is a custom, or a knife that you haven't got so far because of its price.

I treated myself to one of Charlies Barlows last year for my 51st birthday. A Gabon Ebony Clip/Pen. We celebrate a solid 1 year carry March 23rd of this year

Happy Birthday!!! Enjoy your day...

I agree with Woodrow. Get yourself a nice custom. There are a lot of Lloyds readily available to choose from and you'll be coming back for more!
