In celebration of hitting the 500 Page mark, it is only fitting that a Barlow be given away. Whoever wins this one will have a choice from the latest batch of New Day Speys!!!

Looks like everyone is waiting for someone to break the ice. :D

Not an entry Charlie, but thank you for all that you do. I bet that Barlow thread has hooked numerous future traditional knife nuts on traditional knives. I know it hooked me on them. Congrats on 500. ::thumbup:

Here is pic of my favorite one that I own. I have this one and the Red Stew's blade.

My favorite Barlow is in my avatar and here (unfortunately, I don't know any knife jokes - but I'm looking forward to some in this thread).

Not an entry (I just got my first Barlow 2 weeks ago) but wanted to say thanks for everything Charlie. I don't think I'd be out of line by saying the Barlow is perhaps the most iconic traditional knife pattern and you Charlie are perhaps the most important figure in Barlow history since it's heyday. I bet there's more Barlows in young people's pockets now than than there ever had been since the invention of the one-hand-opening knife.

An awesome giveaway you have here. Perhaps I'll make in for the next one.

This 77 really turned me onto Barlows. I'm going to redouble my efforts to get in on the next run of TC's.

Congrats on the 500 pages!
Not an entry, I only contributed once in that thread.

Here are some for all to enjoy :D

When I see lovers names carved in a tree, I don't think its cute. I just think it's crazy how many people bring knives while on a date.

^ always a favourite. Thanks for the giveaway Charlie. Here's a photo of my favourites but I passed it on to a appreciative home of a forum member.

Monster thread Charlie ;) Who'd have thunk it :) That spey blade is a sweetheart, but not an entry please my friend :) Happy to let someone else have a go

I go to a second hand market most weeks, and there's generally a good crack (not craic) round the tool stall. Feller said something last week that made me laugh, "I hate it when people say 'Nothing hurts worse worse than a paper-cut.' They've obviously never been stabbed!" ;) :D

It would be rude to refuse.
I'll have a stab at this one:D
Don't know if can handle it though :)
The barhas been set fairlylow
I'll be jiggeredif I can't scaleit.
I won't lose my temperif I steelmyself.
OWWCH my brain hurts now.
Here some of the many faces of the barlow-one of them isn't really a barlow at all but labelled as one.
Cheers Charles:D

Charlie, 500 pages is really something! Everyone here is proud and thankful for your contribution to the knife world! Thank you for the things you have done for all of us publicly, and for me personally.

The Spelling Bee
Teacher to student: "The word to spell is knife"
Student: "Can you use it in a sentence, please?"
Teacher: "The TC Barlow is a beautiful knife."
Student: "n-i-f-e"
Teacher: "I'm sorry, that is incorrect, you forgot the silent 'k'"
Student: "Yeah, it's silent, you didn't hear me when I said it!"

Here's my favorite of my three Barlows. It doesn't look this pristine anymore, and I need to take a new photo. But I still can't really get over how awesome this TC is! It's like a metal and wood sculpture, with function and purpose.

Abraham Lincoln frequently told of the man who accosted him on a train, saying: "Excuse me, sir, but I have an article in my possession which rightfully belongs to you." "How is that?" asked Lincoln in amazement. Whereupon the stranger produced a jack-knife and explained: "This knife was placed in my hands some years ago, with the injunction that I was to keep it until I found a man uglier than myself. Allow me now to say, sir, that I think you are fairly entitled to it." (Lincoln's Humor: An Analysis by Benjamin P. Thomas)

I've heard this story told a number of ways. One story was that Lincoln was the one presenting the knife to a close friend of his. The knife is frequently described as a Barlow with a broken handle or broken blade. The author noted above thinks that Lincoln probably used his jokes repeatedly, so different tellings may have had different details.

This is one of my oldest TC Barlows, and it is probably my favorite. I have always preferred clip blades.

But truthfully, my favorite Barlow is always whichever one(s) is(are) in my pocket at the present moment.

I would be honored to win the GAW, Charlie. Very generous of you. My wife would ask why I need another pocket knife. I would just tell her the old one isn't cutting it.

Charlie, what a great giveaway. This is not an entry, as I've had my fair share of TC barlows and have been the recipient of more than enough generosity via this forum. The length of that thread, and the modern revival of the barlow pattern, are testaments to your influence on the traditional knife world. I have learned so much from your posts and threads. Of the barlows that I've had pass through my hands, this is the one that I'm most eager to replace.

Buffalo horn and D2 is my favorite combination right now. Here's a joke:

A sharp knife can come in mighty handy at times....

Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Drawings by my father, Cliff Johnson 1925-2012

This barlow has always been my favorite. Plain, simple, and exquisitely functional.

Charlie, mighty generous of you. Not surprised at all that the thread has reached 500 pages, I go to that thread at least twice a day just to see all the wonderful Barlow's that everyone posts, both new and old.
The thread has also become a valuable resource for me, both the history of the Barlow and identifying some of the more desirable Barlow's to try to add to my collection.
Hard for me to pick out one favorite, but there is something about this Wostenholm I*XL.

Charlie first let be begin by thanking you for all you do for this place we all love. Thank you for

all the wonderful knives that you bring to be. Thank you for this thread! With all the love for the

Barlow pattern on this Porch, I dare to say that 500 is just the tip of the Ice Burg. Pictured is

one of my favorite Barlows. I won it here on the porch in a GAW hosted by two of our friends.

This GAW was to help bring support and awareness to some very worthy foundations. I have

experienced many acts of giving and witnessed even more. I am proud to be a member here and

I would be proud to win one of your New Day Spey TC Barlows. Thanks again :)
