500 Pages and Counting!! Winner chosen!Dr. Scott!!

Congrats on 500 pages about the knife you love the most! I don't have many barlows. Two customs, a few 77's but that's about it. I always seem to miss the TC reservations but I have plenty of regular 15's to sort of fill the void lol. Plus an Esnyx Beerlow...almost forgot to mention that little guy!

My favorite barlow is my Todd Davison. It's everything that I expected and more. True it's not the same shape and style as the traditional barlow of old but it's still my favorite! Thanks for the giveaway Charlie. Also thank you for the work that you've put in toward all of the forum knives!

Nice Charlie! Not an entry but wanted to share.

Can't think of a knife related joke at the moment but I'll part with this Rudyard Kipling:

Gold is for the mistress -- silver for the maid --
Copper for the craftsman cunning at his trade."
"Good!" said the Baron, sitting in his hall,
"But Iron -- Cold Iron -- is master of them all."

Congratulations on this milestone Charlie and on the incredible success of your TC Barlows! Thanks for all you have done for us and continue to do as a Traditional knife enabler.....errr mentor, yes mentor.

I actually have two favorite barlows and zero knife jokes.

First, this old Keen Kutter gifted to me by my good friend Jon Slider. In the short time I have known him, he never ceases to teach me something new in all aspects of life.

This TC was gifted to me by another good friend Ryan (556Hunter) out of the blue when my mom was going through health issues as a "Pick-Me-Up". It did just that, and still makes me smile as a reminder the good people on this forum.

I don't know how to check exactly how many posts I have in the barlow thread but I feel like it should be more than a dozen lol. Thank you for all you do for us knife nuts although I'm not sure my wife would agree with me whenever the bank statement comes around after each TC run is released. :) I don't really have any good jokes to tell but I took a picture of one that really cracked me up that was in the OKCA flyer a couple months back. I don't know if I can pick a favorite of my barlows but it would probably be one of these 4. :) Thank you for this generous gaw Charlie!

I've been posting this everywhere because it's my favorite Barlow outside of TCs!

Charlie, the Barlow thread is epic! The reasons are numerous, but the TC Barlow is certainly a powerful force. The knife world has Charlie to thank for that. I have long appreciated the Barlow pattern as it was my first knife. This one is particularly special to me and I have carried it at least part of the day everyday since I received it.

Please consider my entry for the "New Day" TC.

Chris

Excellent giveaway Charlie. If my name is picked I will pass the new barlow on to someone who hasn't had the chance to experience a TC yet. Your generosity around here goes without saying and I have benefited from it on more than one occasion.

It wasn't a tough decision picking my favorite barlow. I just had to go with this one, a symbol of friendship that I will cherish until my son is old enough to appreciate it, then pass it on to him to cherish some more!

Here is my joke contribution. More of a humorous story, really. It's a little long but just bear with me!

Charlie was heading to the Oregon Knife Show, his favorite show of the year!

He was bringing so many knives that he needed to rent a van. He headed down to the local U-Haul, but when he got there he found he wasn't the only one looking to rent a van. The van line was out the door, so he took his place in line. He waited and waited for hours in the van line, and eventually it was his turn and he was lucky because he got the last van!

With all his wares packed into the van, he headed off for the long drive over the border and into Oregon. It was getting late so he decided to go straight to the hotel and check in for the night. When he walked into the lobby, bags in tow, he found, to his dismay, a very long line of other knife enthusiasts at the hotel desk. He waited his turn in the hotel line, and before long he had his room key. He went up to his room and drifted off to sleep, dreaming of all the old slipjoints he would get to CF & CE the next morning.

The next day came, and he hopped in his van and headed off to the convention center, bright and early to beat the crowds. When he arrived at the show he found, once again, a long line a dealers waiting out front of the show, ready to check in and set up their tables. So again he waited and waited in that dealer line, getting antsy but knowing it would be his turn soon enough. After a good hour of waiting in the dealer line, he had his badge and then had his table set up in a jiffy.

Then he saw it! In the back corner of the show, a huge glowing sign that read, "Have your picture taken with the WORLD'S OLDEST BARLOW!" He wasn't the only one to see it though, it seemed everyone and their brother was waiting to have their picture taken with the most special knife at the show. He asked Barry to watch his table and went to take his place in the barlow line. He waited in that line what seemed like half the day, a couple times almost giving up and heading back to his table in defeat, but he persevered! He just HAD to lay eyes on that knife, the one he'd been searching for for the good part of his knife-collecting career. The barlow line moved slowly, but eventually it was his turn. It was worth the wait! He CF'd & CE'd that barlow to his heart's desire, and then put on his viking helmet for a goofy photo with it.

After all that waiting he was starving. He headed over to the concession stand and hopped in line for some fried cheese. The cheese line was no slouch either. He waited and waited in the cheese line but eventually got his basket, and devoured that cheese in all of its golden, salty glory. Now he was parched!

He headed back up to the concession stand for a big glass of his favorite fruit punch. To his surprise, there was no punch line!

Wow, Charlie-- congratulations on the vitality of your undertakings, as reflected in part by your barlow thread here on Bladeforums.

I don't know how to check exactly how many posts I have in the barlow thread....

Jake, you're currently sitting pretty with 87 posts in the pertinent thread.

Here's how I know (for you, and others who might be wondering how to find out):

In the Traditional Subforum list view, click on the number of "Replies," then either search for your name (command-F on Mac, control-F on Windows) or scroll down until you see it.

Charlie, congratulations. Lucky is the man that enjoys his work. Even more rewarding is the recognition and support of those that respect and admire one's efforts.

I am sorry I don't have snappy joke or a sharp witted response. Simply, a note of thanks and hopes that you continue to enjoy what you do.

This is a replica of my favorite Barlow. My boyhood knife was this pattern. It is lost to the nooks and crannies of my childhood home. I have no doubt that I will be reunited with it after my mother's home is cleaned out (years in the future).

Charlie, thank you for bringing us wonderful offerings every year. The TC's are such an eclectic representation of classic Barlow's. Your thread has the wings to continue for a long time to come. Lot's of really informative information as well as pics to entertain for hours.
I have a hard time choosing just one favorite. But it would definitely be one of these three for sure.

Thanks for the instructions Sarah - AND the compliments!! I noticed on my Windows PC, if I just "hover" over the "replies" number, a balloon pops up telling me how many posts I have right away!

Well, whaddaya know? You're right, one can see one's own post total by Hovering.

The only reasonable conclusion being, I'm in more of a hurry (and so Click instead of Hover), and possibly more nosy, than you. ;)

Nosy is good!:)

But I actually suspected it was your blinding speed!

Being as how I am more tortoise-like . . . . . . . .

A very nice gesture Charlie and thank you for the opportunity. :) I was suprised to see I am at 70 posts if I am reading it correctly. I owe a lot to the TC Barlow and to the great people on this thread. When I was still a forums novice flitting about the edges but too shy to participate it was this thread that sparked my courage. I just could not believe how kind, supportive and positive everyone was. Just 5 months later I feel very comfy here on the porch. My hat is off to all of you:thumbup:.

This is my favorite barlow overall because Paul and Mark both worked on it showing incredible generosity as they did. Happy 4th everyone!

Charlie
500 pages of a fascinating Thread, I personally think that the TC's are so popular because of the man who for the love of the Traditional knife has personally been a massive part in them being reborn and out into the knife world once again, this with a fantastic Cutlery Company working in side by side.
This is the knife I carried on my Wedding day- so to say its special is an understatement - you may recognize the knife Charlie -so in so so many ways my friend - thank you!
Not an entry - although I would love to - but you have gifted me so much, and everytime I look at my knives - I think I feel a little of what surges through your veins - the true love of the Traditional Knife.
Well done to you Charlie and also well done o all who have supported you.

Hers a picture that is a favourite of mine - me still sick with a cold - but as happy as a pig in mud because this day I shared with the one and only Jack Black - and part of that day was with Stan Shaw - Holding one of Charlies Barlows! Its times like these when life is pretty darn good you know!

Great to see that pic again Duncan, truly a special day my friend :)

Great giveaway. I withheld putting in for a Spey because I wasn't sure about the blade shape, but after seeing the pictures of the "Fat spey", I'm sold.

My favorite barlow:
