Hi All,

I just received a package in the mail from myright, containing an awesome 'A bag', from his 1462 Post giveaway challenge. It's destined to be used as my stow bag for canoe trips this spring / summer. Thanks again for the excellent giveaway myright!

In the spirit of paying it forward, I've decided to hold a 500 post giveaway.

The giveaway contest will end on Fri, Dec. 5, at which point I'll be announcing the winner. W&SS regulars are the intended participants, but I certainly won't be disqualifying anyone for a low post count (seeing that it has taken me four years to close in on 500 posts ...). North American participants only (sorry - can't afford overseas shipping right now!).

To participate: post a picture you have taken during a wilderness outing that fits the theme "inclement weather" (along with a short description). Could be a view from your shelter during a deluge. Could be a shot of some ominous clouds rolling in. Could be from that time you opted to hunker down and ride out the hurricane. Or that "fall" trip that became an impromptu winter camping experience.

As always, extra photos with knife content are most welcome!

Up for grabs is a CRKT Hammond A.B.C. "Operator's Model". Don't let the tacti-cool name fool you (but feel free to ridicule it) - it's actually a decent knife for kayaking, canoeing, diving, and general rough use. The sheath is adjustable. It would make a good addition to a BOB or watersport kit.

I think it's also an example of the polar opposite of the general consensus that emerged in the 'biggest knife turn-ons' thread. It has finger grooves (top and bottom!), a black coating, serrated back, tanto-ish point, a zytel sheath, and nothing even remotely resembling a scandi grind! :D :p

Looking forward to the photos! I'll get things started.

This is a shot taken from my canoe (BC interior), in that magical two minutes between when everything went still and when all hell broke loose. Great storm.

Heres a shot of a storm rollin in that turned into a wicked one pelting me with hail the whole way home. I was riding my mountain bike, and was 10 miles from my house when I snapped this.....

Great pics so far guys.

tonym, I had the chance to hike in the Adirondacks this summer, but wasn't able to catch a storm.

j williams, those definitely look like some low-hanging clouds. Inclement indeed!

Thanks, Codger_64, for getting things started with something thoroughly apocalyptic.

Keep 'em coming!

- Mike

Clouds from a cold front that brought some really cold weather and some snow on the Beartooth trip. This picture is from our descent from the Beartooth Plateau down to Jasper lake.

Great topic for a giveaway.

This picture is from a recent trip to the Smoky Mountains. It was about 5k feet up and it was raining/misting all day long and the fog was outrageous. My wife was 5 months pregnant at the time and the picture is a section of the AT we hiked for a few miles. It was a great time, bad weather or not.

Oh - December 5th is my 31st birthday!!!!!!!!

Cool picture myright. I love hiking in the fog. Good to hike when it's snowing as well, as long as the wind isn't blowing too bad. Unfortunately we usually get lots of wind with snow here in Nebraska.

An angry Lake Superior before the snow flew and closed down Duluth. My friends and I had to make the journey down to canal park to see the storms rage in person.

Thanks bro.

It was a super cool trip and was a lot fun in the fog. I've got some pics of us in Gettysburg that I almost posted, but I like the fog pics better.

I with you - I really enjoy the snow and hiking and/or camping in it.

Here is a picture from a hike I went on in West Texas. Sun was out where I was standing.

No need to enter me, just wanted to post the picture.

These are from a hike up Blood Mtn in NE GA. The top of Blod Mtn is a granite bald. It was overcast most of the day.

Then the clouds started coming in...

It looked like it was really going to dump and I started hightailing off the bald...

Thanks for the Giveaway!

This is a shot from our arctic exploration camp in Nunavut. This whiteout lasted 4 days. The funny thing is that it was quite bright, you needed sunglasses all the time in order to see anything. I shot this through the red lens of my snow goggles. Thanks for the contest!

Hard to choose but I'd have to go with this one from when I was in the great state of Alaska on a bit of "pleasurable business". There were always rain clouds rolling in, but they always made for dramatic photos!

These are just for your viewing pleasure and are in no way meant to be taken as my entry...unless they're prize winning;)

Thanks for making this available:thumbup:

Great photos everyone!

It can be a real drag (or not!) when rough weather interferes with an outing, but it does make for interesting pictures and stories.

Keep the ominous clouds, fog banks, and snowdrifts coming!

All the best,

- Mike

Yeah dipbait, "foul" weather is great. Keeps the less hardy away so you can enjoy nature to its fullest. "Foul" weather is often the best time to be doing things outdoors anyway, as long as it's not life-threateningly bad.
